Stratstone Timing Belt Offers Now Extended to 30/06/2014 |
|
Looks as though Stratstone Land Rover dealerships have extended their timing belt offers until 30/06/2014 (was 28/02/2014):
http://www.stratstone.com/brands/land_rove...urceid=263
Option 1: Full 105k service = £599
Option 2: Belts only = £399
On the face of it, this looks like excellent value and brings the price down to less than what most indys charge these days.
Plus, you get to drive about in a new LR for the day .
You might need to direct the service department to the URL above as the dealership I spoke to (Aylesbury) were not willing to entertain this offer initially.

I can't get a straight answer out of them as to EXACTLY what parts they will fit on this offer, the adds a re deliberately (IMHO) badly worded to confuse you

Interestingly the advertisement only refers to 2.7l engines - do they assume that no 3.0l D4s have reach this mileage yet?
Does anyone know what they, specifically, charge to supply & fit a new oil pump at the same time?

I've been quoted £289 for the oil pump while the belts are being done at Farnell, Guiseley.
Not got a price from elsewhere so not sure how good that is

I agree it's not entirely precisely clear what parts they actually fit, CDS.
However, since they claim to use Genuine Land Rover parts, I would expect them to use a Genuine timing belt kit which, I think, only includes the belts and tensioners (front and back). I doubt any additional idler wheels are included unless specifically requested.
I can't imagine they will be replacing the oil pump at that price - I will not be changing my oil pump anyway (2006 MY here ) when the time comes for mine (very soon). I will be putting a water pump on it, though.

According to the descriptions in the URL, they replace both toothed drive belts and tensioners
They will not replace the idler pulleys, and the aux belt will only be replaced if you have the service done at the same time (unless specifically asked for, allow an extra £70 or so, to replace them)
Seems fairly straight forward to me My D3 Build Thread

There was a thread on here recently where a forum member had been in Comms with LR customer services ref Oil pan and associated parts, they supplied the parts and paid the dealerships labour rate whilst the 105K service done, I tried searching for the thread but as usual I can't find it !
Everything else but what I'm actually looking for !
My local Stratstone dealer isn't very helpfull at all ?
So I don't think I'll be taking them up on this offer, its handy to take to another dealer though and use it as a bargaining tool ?
I'll keep you posted on that one Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Option 1:
Quote:£599. Full 105,00 mile service incorporating both timing belts, injection pump belt and tensioners plus the auxiliary drive belt using only genuine Land Rover parts and full trained, experienced Land Rover Technicians
Option 2:
Quote:£399 Replacement of both camshaft belts, injection pump belt and tensioners using only genuine Land Rover parts and full trained, experienced Land Rover Technicians
Option 1 mentions 'both timing belts', option 2 mentions 'both camshaft belts' - I know these are the same thing, but why use confusing terminology?
Option 1 mentions Both Timing Belts ,Injection Pump Belt & Aux belt......... I thought the TDV6 only had 3 belts in total? This implies 4 belts are being changed??
I would want the Idlers done on the Front Belt, so I emailed Stratstones in Bury, to be told 'everything' was included (trick question on my part I suppose, as I really wanted part numbers to be 100% clear. So I sent back the following:
Quote:
Many thanks, I'm assuming that the '2 Idler rollers (1311306) & Bolts' are not included in that price? Please could you quote for these? I'm assuming labour will be negligible, as access to them would already gained whilst stripping down to get to the timing belt itself.
And their reply:
Quote:The idlers come part of a timing belt kit which is included in the price
Now I know I've 'got it in writing' but realistically when I go to collect the vehicle and find that they haven't changed the idlers, it's going to be a confrontation and they aren't going to strip it all down again - so I wanted it nice and clear for all before I even contemplate booking it in........

I understand exactly where you are saying but I would try and avoid putting myself in situations like that, my fragile temperament doesn't allow for such variables in heart rate !
I'd rather get all the associated parts and get a knowledgeable Indy to take their time and do it properly. Only dead fish go with the Flow !

That's exactly why I won't go to them unless they can answer my query clearly and concisely.
I stand by my original thoughts - the advert is confusingly worded!

Basically the ad is only any use as a lever to get better dealerships/ Indies to price match, my bloody pressure is going up at the thought of even driving to Bury!!
I have got a "50% off my next service" voucher due to their up a couple of years ago. Though no doubt they will argue that this isn't my 'next' service, because I've had the voucher 2 years and had my 'next' service 12 months ago

I've just tried the bargaining tool Effect with Duckworths at Market Rasen,
£750 was the best price they could do it at as it is a two day job ?
That's a lot of cash over and above what Stratstone are asking ?
Are they using Genuine Parts ? Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Stratstone say in their advertisement:-
Quote:using only genuine Land Rover parts and fully trained, experienced Land Rover Technicians
I am still waiting a reply to an email sent to them at 10:15 yesterday 27th January asking for clarification regarding a couple of issues; and for the additional cost of supplying & fitting a new oil pump & bolt when carrying out the belt work.
I know it's been read by at least three people including the dealer principal, so no doubt I'll receive a reply soon. They are a sponsor of this forum, so I'm giving them extra time..

Having had Mick (Flack) do my belts early last year he is without doubt one of the best sets of hands I have seen working in an engine bay, I appreciate Preston is a long way to go but I know he will do another weekend in the south soon so PM him, meet up with him, hang on until he comes south...Whatever it will be worth the wait or drive.
He does also change oil pump casings where necessary. Paul Redding
