Strange one?

Last night I was picking my son up at the station and he appeared just as I was switching the engine off, so it was a very quick off/on. When switched back, on the dash was showing an EPB fault - EPB hadn't been switched on and I know that the ECUs don't like an incomplete power down/power up, so I switched it off, then ignition on, waited until all the lights went out and started it up again. No EPB light, so all good, so far... This morning, no radio - well actually, radio lights up but no sound. Buttons to change station do nothing. FM/AM/CD/Aux buttons work, but no sound from CD. CD changer works but play doesn't start. Buttons on steering wheel work, but still no joy from the radio/cd player. No fault codes showing, but I did briefly see a "low power mode" on the radio info screen, despite GAP showing 12.4v at this point (engine off).

Taking my life in my hands, I reflashed the ECU and after the usual, heart-stoppingly-long 1 min 20s process, all back to normal and radio working as it should. So what would cause this? Why no "lost connection", or similar, fault code? And was there a better way to cure the fault? Reflashing the whole car seems a bit extreme for a radio issue! Shocked

I had similar just two weeks ago - radio on but no sound etc. I just pulled the fuse in the CJB for a few minutes before replacing it and all was fine.

I suspect it was the reset at the end of the process that sorted it, rather than the flash.

Try a clear all fault codes next time. See if that helps. or remove the radio fuses 52/53? behind the glovebox

Thanks both. I had done a number of clear all faults and a couple of power-off/power-ons, with no change, which was why I resorted to the Flash ECUs approach. I had been thinking that since there was power to the radio, then it wasn't a fuse issue, but hadn't thought-through that the radio would have remained powered-up during a switch-off/switch-on cycle unless I waited the ten minutes or so for it to completely power down.

Not sure if it is related, but I sometimes get a buzzing from behind the radio during that period when the ignition is turned off but before the car has gone to sleep.
