strange noise, followed by reduce and increase of rpms

Hello there !!!

Today, when started the engine, i noticed in idle position, a sound like ''clik'' behind the dash or
at the back of the bonnet, followed by immdiadely droping of rpms (around 50/100) and noticable change of engines sound, after almost 5 seconds, the same ''clik'' and the rpms increased to normal position.
The ''clik'' is like a switch, or a rele..open and close..every almost 5 seconds, i test to see if happends while apply the throtle..and again same think happend.
No faults, or errors, or smthing else, the car otherwise is fine. Any idea what this could be ????

pleased to hear from you

regards
Jacob

Sounds like the clutch on the A/C cutting in and out with the associated drag on the engine, doesn't sound like problem.

Try turning the ATCM off or onto 'econ', if this stops the issue, then it's the aircon kicking in & out

I thought the D3 has a continuously variable actuator for the aircon compressor, rather than the inefficient magnetic on/off clutch? Are there variants?

nothing that comes to mind - do you have a second battery fitted with an 'intelligent' controller?

could be that the second battery is discharged or has a bad cell, the change in revs may be due to increased load on the alternator. Disconnect the second battery and see if the issue is resolved

Amazing without even knowing there is a second battery he picks up on it Shocked

EDIT: 10ForCash as your VAT registered you could do warranty work via the Tesco policy can't you. Might be worth setting up with them as an approved supplier, if they do such a thing.

Going to contact them over the next few days, could be good for Disco3'ers and me 8)

Hello again, just to report back....

10fc, you were apsolutely right mate,.. it was the second battery, which was at very low levels
as my son, opened by mistake the car pc which is connected directly to this batery and it was working fr a couple of days, as i did not moved the car at all fr those two days, so the second battery was drained and partly the main battery as both are ''smartly'' connected eachother...so the altenator was working overtime to charge them.
Now everything is ok, back to normal life...

thks for yr assistance guys, and TFC....you are great Thumbs Up

regards
jacob
