Strange intermittent vibration....

First post so please be gentle!

Car is a D3 '06 manual, with a high mileage (105k...goes in for timing belts next week Sad ), just before Xmas I noticed a vibration occurring that I thought might be snow or ice on a wheel. However, driving the car today (it's normally my wife's ride), the shake re-occurred~: starts at higher speeds (c55-65mph), but once it's present, it stays until you slow down to c30mph, then clears and then drives fine, until the next time. Happened twice in c50 miles today.

Any ideas?

Could be a sticking brake. Next time it happens, check the wheels and discs for excessive heat. If one wheel is hotter than the rest, its binding. It could be either the brake caliper, or the parking brake shoes inside the rear discs.

If its the park brake, the rear discs usually discolours around the hub part of the disc. Mine went white as the excessive heat burnt the grey paint.

Thanks: it had new rear discs and calipers in August so very possible. The park brake has always been a bit 'sticky' too, so makes sense.
