Was it rolling down hill with a tail wind and the engine switched off? If not, it's obviously one of those LR errors that get thrown up now and then. Rolling with laughter

If you can get that when its not moving, think about what you could get when actually going somewhere Laughing

Using that quaint old fashioned notion measuring distance travel and volume of fuel required to refill to brim, an alternative view is 37 mpg.

Still much better than the 21-ish the lie-ometer normally shows.

Let's see what the next few days give me.

Speedo will be set to km/h for next 3.

ok ... just got round to working out the, ahem, economy for the trip to Nantes and back.

Tuesday
brimmed tank at ASDA Trafford Park
Set Cruise Control to 62mph as no rush
278 miles to Ashford, Kent
brimmed tank at Sainsbury's
used 34.5 litres

= 36.6 mpg

Wednesday
Eurotunnel then 380 miles to Nantes
Cruise at 128 wherever possible - didn't fancy getting there too late.
Car saying remaining range = 66km
Brimmed tank, took 68.72 litres

= 25.2 mpg for French part of outward leg
= 29.0 mpg for whole outward leg.

We were meant to come back Friday but delayed so came back Saturday.

Rang other branches of some potential stopover hotels but some wouldn't let us stay as we'd been to France .... so we'd know NOT to mention it if we'd HAD to stop. Decided not worth the grief so went for stopping for an hour's kip here and there.

Nantes to Eurotunnel to Sainsbury's Ashford
set cruise @ 100kmh (so same as UK outward bit) as not in any rush
car saying 278km range left
brimmed tank, took 50.42 litres !!!
=34.2 mpg

Back to Manchester = 270 miles (ASDA Hulme was showing open for Fuel @ 4am)
Brimmed tank = 40 litres
= 30.68 mpg

whole trip = 1308 miles using 193.7 litres = 30.7 mpg

So ... for the French end of the trip, that extra 30km/h on the outward part meant using an extra 18 litres compared to the more leisurely return leg.

Think I'll try and do it over three days for outward trip when we next go. I never saw signs in the French services but am assuming they don't have "max 2 hours parking" like in the UK ?

Most mainland Europe services aren't run by the money grabbing thugs that prowl around those in the UK and allow one plenty of time to rest and recover.
(I picked up a ticket in one UK services due to collecting a face of soap from the thing in the loos that broke resulting in an overnight stay in the local A&E. Ticket was cancelled eventually, but it took months of hard chasing.)
