A hidden kill switch will stop them stealing it , but not damaging it while they break into it. Would advise more visible /noisy deterrent be used too.Gary

Agreed that a physical and visible deterrent would be a good idea.
Also I will try and install a hidden kill switch . Where's a good place to tap into the lpfp wiring? I have the wiring diagram but it's not much help tracing the wiring route from the engine bay fuse box to the pump.D1 300Tdi - gone

Take it from the fuse box, fuse No'1 I think is the lpfp but there are other options too.(ECM)yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Profs. You're right old school methods are usually the best however LPFP or starter motor, or any other "cut offs" fed from fuse box are quite easy for thieves to recover. I use to work as car alarm/security systems fitter sometime ago and know from experience as clever thief will put 12v straight into LPFP from rear light or straight from battery into fuse box.
Best option is to cut off the signal between one of the engine sensor (or more then one) and ECU. Even if thief have OBD or keys car will show fault but won't start.
Other think is - if you have good (loud) properly fitted and hidden car alarm, thieves won't spend more then 15-20 seconds on it. If car can't be "shut quiet" within 20second they will go to another car rather then take a risk on your one - unless is "on order" job. MY14 D4 3.0 SDV6 HSE in Loire Blue

You will probably need to get at the back of the fuse box to access the wiring, or have a look at the wiring diagram and access the correct wire as it enters the loom on the ECM. As darek says there are other options there too via engine sensors, cam sensor interruption for example will prevent the injectors firing. Starter relay is another option, or a splice into the solenoid wire on the motor will prevent it from being energised. A more obvious solution perhaps, but a pig to get at for a thief!
Whatever route you choose it must not be obvious for the reasons darek stated, but nowadays I think generally if it doesn't start on the first go the thieves tend to move on.

On my 2011 Disco and 2010 RRS, I have a hidden switch linked into fuse 22 behind the glovebox.
When 'in operation' the car will not start, and the following faults appear, Gearbox Fault, HDC Not Available, Stability Control Not Available & Emergency Brake Assist Not Available.
Unless you know these vehicles, that's enough for anyone to deal with in a hurry.
However, once the engine has started, operation of my switch has no effect on any of the systems and nothing untoward happens.

I think anything we can to delay a potential villain is to delay their attempts to start the car and just make it too awkward so that they move on to their next victim.
Dave's Fuse22 idea sounds easier than rootling around under the engine bay gearbox so I'll think I'll go for that.
I'm also going to buy a StopLock Pro. It gets good reviews and is half the price and easier to live with than a Disklok. Both take >5 mins to overcome in various tests posted online so I'm sure it would be a worthwhile deterrent.D1 300Tdi - gone

Stoplock Pro is a very good deterrent. In our area we have had several Range Rovers and Discoverys stolen, only D4’s funnily enough not D5’s.
Police think it is organised as any thief spotted on camera seems to be replaced very quickly.
You need the Stoplock 149-00 as the other one is not the right shape.
