Still trying to find this noise
If I go from drive reverse drive reverse clunks every time
Coming to a stop sometimes clunks slightly
If I ease of the accelerator and let revs drop clunks when re applying accelerator
Had some one sit in it and change from reverse to drive back and forth while I was underneath and sounds like it’s coming from rear axle
Does this movement in rear axle sound and look right

Before you blame the diff, what were the rear drive shafts doing as you went from D to R?
Have to say the older coiler land rovers have massive amounts of backlash in their diffs, way more than you have.

Well after
Looking under car I have a hell of a lot of play in the rear near side inner cv joint I can twist it a hell of a lot and can hear it knocking inside and that’s brand new !!!
Also is the d4 rear ediff the same as the d3 I know the half shafts are the same and there the same ratio and look identical Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

Well today I have changed the rear axle and replaced the crap new driveshaft I brought and what a difference goes through the gears really nice no clunking
But I stil get the stightest bump from 2-1 when coming to a stop
And if I sit still and put foot on brake and shift from reverse to drive still clunk and shift from drive to reverse still clunk (this is while sitting still) not too bad no where near like it was but this feels like it’s coming from underneath the gear stick ie transfer box
Is this normal and Is it best just to leave it now and not expect mirricles Disco 3 gone but not forGotten
