Sterling is part of the Swift Group, and as such they make thousands of 'vans. Build quality is middle of the road. I had two Swifts, and both were very good spec, and no problems, but others have had horror stories. With mass production it is a lottery (just like LR then )
Just go and look with 1) eyes wide open, 2) Nose clear (looking for smells) 3) a Damp meter.
If the spec/layout/fixtures and fittings are wnat you like, and its got all the right docs (sales invoice/CRIS registration), and you are buying from a dealer, or private, make sure address match, you should be OK.

I had a Sterling Elite - excellent van which never gave me any grief in 5+ years of ownership. We did something approaching 500 nights over the period - it was well tested

i have had 2 Sterling Caravan (1 for a year, then the other for 7yr) , and now onto my third under the Swift Group with my Swift Challenger Sport 636.
I had no issues with the Sterlings at all, nothing broke or needed sticking back together, but the Swift is a bit different, I have had a damp issue in the front, trim that came unstuck and draw runners that fell apart
They are normally the same vans, with slightly different interiors, if its not damp or stuck back together i would think it would be fine

We got a 2013 Sterling Eccles Sport 586 last spring.
But now I have calmed down from the appalling handover experience (we left three hours after our appointment without it!!!) and and initial leak and shattered Heki (not Swifts fault) its been fine and we used it a lot last year.
Seems reasonably well screwed together although I dont think any manufacturers are as good as they were a few years ago as they drive down costs. My bro-inlaw has the exact same van from Swift which is identical save for the colours of the fabrics and the wood.
