Steering rack replacement and o/s front drive shaft
Had the car since January and so far was sold a right lemon but we love them so we fix them, recently had some play appear in the steering more noticeable when turning left whilst moving at 15-25 mph as I feel a jump in the steering and also a grinding vibration through the whole car. Stops as soon as the steering wheel is straightened doesn’t need to much of a turn to cause this .
So I’ve brought a load of parts and hopefully will resolve it this weekend
The rack is a reconditioned unit with 3 years warranty produced with oe or more superior parts so I took the plunge at £169 and a £150 surcharge that will be refunded once my old rack is received by them and signed for. The currier is in with the original price and you phone them up and the named currier collects it.
Will report back and hopefully have good news to report about the rack
When I start this lot tomorrow I will hopefully have chance to take a load of pics to put up Here
My lad couldn’t believe the o/s front half shaft was as big as him Metal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)

Dazz360,
Who did you get the recon rack from and would you use them again?
I'm needing a rack for my disco 3
Thanks,
Adrian

I would use them again as the recon rack is superb
The company is part of lion automotives I’ll find the link to add
They take £150 deposit on top but it’s delivered next day and as soon as the old one is off just give them a call to collect it next day then once they’ve got the old unit money if transfer back to the account only thing you will need is new large cable ties as it’s delivered with the boots on the ends to protect the threads for the tie rods ( reconditioned tie rods are with the reconed unit )

I bought a rack from lion automotive and fitted early this year. It’s been faultless since.

I found it easy enough. Jack up front of car to get access under neath. Remove inner track rod in line ball joints from rack. Disconnect steering input (fiddly, but ok), drain fluid, disconnect hoses. Undo 2x bolts holding rack on. Then wiggle it out. Refit is reverse of removal.
As I kept track rod ends assemblies in one piece I got away with out needing tracking

Curious to hear how your rack is holding out and did that cure your problem?
My D3 has developed a front end knock, usually only going around a right hand corner and it can be felt going over a speed bump, seems central but more towards passenger side, the DSC is also activated when going around RH corners and roundabouts.
I’ve replaced all the front suspension and associated bushings since I bought the car and I’m confident that all is well there. Thanks
