STC50551 - what is it???

Hi all,

anyone know what type of sealant or adhesive ST50551 is, as shown on a number of LR accessory instructions? Any suggestions what I could substitute it with that's easily accessible (and most likely cheaper!!!)?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Also an RRSPORT alternative: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic9087.html

Could well be a Sikaflex product, I know that's what BMW use for fitting spoilers etc - tons of the stuff on eBay.

Problem with no more nails is it goes solid. If it's in a non flex position then all well and good. Sikaflex 9is a wonderful bit of kit. I use Tigerseal. Black gooey stuff that sticks you know what to a blanket. The only way it's coming undone is with a knife. I used it to bond the new rear panels on my 90 when I rebuilt the rear end. Still going strong years later and that's after a lot of hard offroading in challenge events

Cheers gents Bow down

It seems anything curing to rock hardness may not be appropriate for fitting things like headlight washerjet covers or mirror covers, so I'll take a trip down the local DIY store for some mastic adhesive Thumbs Up

Get it from car paint factors or local windcreen fitter might sell it to you.

Sikaflex, Tiger Seal, Starchem PU sealer.

Thanks again Thumbs Up

None of the two local DIY shops had any of the brands mentioned here, got this instead:

I've used the Bison brand before, seems to be reasonably good. Though composition is not given, it states that it can be safely be used where PU adhesives would be used and is waterproof (apparently can even be applied on damp surfaces without problems). Additional benefit is that' it's clear (black was also available). The brand is Dutch by the way...

Waiting for the bits to arrive and will post on quality when they're on the car 8)

Cheers!

This will be the thread resurrection of all time Thumbs Up still, a resurrection is worthwhile as loctite 3951 has been discontinued and as STC50551 is (still?) priced like it would contain unicorn tears and fairy dust - 35 eur/tube.

I ended up selecting, after some research, Sikaflex®-291i (6.90 eur/tube) which is intended for use in the marine industry as a sealant and adhesive. Once I get the mirror covers I’ll update.
