Starter Motor Whilst doing Turbo Drain Mod

Recently, my D4 has started smoking during first use of the secondary turbo.

It hasn’t had the secondary turbo drain mod done, so planned to do it to hopefully cure the smoking!

So I’ve got the parts and set about undertaking the job. Getting the starter out is a right PITA!

I was disconnecting the power cables and as soon as I put a spanner on the smaller cable mounted onto the plastic part of the solenoid on the starter, it just crumbled! Heart sinking moment!!

Anyway, so I need a new starter now, or can you rebuild the back of the starter. And is it worth doing even if you can?

If not, I will have to drop in to Advanced on Monday and get another, unless anyone in the New Forest has one lying around this weekend!

Thats the very reason every maintenance job starts with disconnect the battery.

The battery was disconnected.

The 145000 miles and 13 years since it was installed was probably the issue!

Probably more to do with the JLR relentless cost saving on components - same era part as the super easily split inlet manifolds
Not to mention all of the other built to a budget components in a premium model car…
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

Or perhaps it’s increased use of biodegradable plastics to make cars more recyclable? I don’t think the expected average life of a car is anywhere near as long as some of us hope to keep our Discos running.

Either way not really what you would expect from an original fitment part, perhaps it was overtightened in the past..
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

Yep its poor.

Ordered a new starter.

I'm not sure what's going on with pricing. Maybe some companies taking the mikey, and blaming inflation!

Tried to get one from Advanced, however they wanted £247 + delivery for a Denso. The exact some one from RST Landover is £162 delivered.

I've tried to use Advanced a few times recently and their pricing has always been higher than everywhere else so I've gone elsewhere.
