Standing for 4 weeks....

Hi,

I've just bought a 2007 TDV6 SE, and am loving it 8) The nature of my work means that it could stand at home un-used for up to 4 weeks at a time, so......

Does anyone have any experience with leaving a TDV6 for this length of time, does the battery retain it's charge OK, is there anything significant I should do to keep it happy??

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Cheers,

FL Thumbs Up

for 4 weeks I would use a trickle charger, like Optimate or CTEK. The ones which are safe for weeks at a time. A CTEK 3600 can be had off the bay for about 45 quid.

EDIT - here you go. With free delivery.

Depending on where the car is left and availabilty to a power socket I'd think of one of those dash-top solar powered trickle chargers, check out Maplins, they do a decent one. Would think that should suffice?

I leave mine without any charger for up to two weeks no probs and my BMW motorbike with an alarm fitted (which usually kills a 'bike battery) has started every time, first prod of the button, after a month or so.

Mine can be left for a couple of weeks and I use a Maplins solar charger as the motor's not near a power socket.

If the cars going to be left for a long period, you should avoid a series of start stops beforehand if you can as a solar charger won't charge up a depleted battery!

Also remember that just opening the doors causes quite a significant drain on a D3 battery to the extent that frequent opening has led to there being insufficient starting voltage.

Just got the Maplin charger, on offer for £9.99. Do I plug into power socket or cigarette lighter or does it not matter? I ask as the led on box doesn't come on.
Thanks.

Do a search for Wiggs' simple instructions to make all auxiliary sockets permanently live.
