Standard 17" GS wheels help reqd.
Hi all,
The standard 17" wheels, as fitted to a Discovery 3 GS (and 5 seater I think) are these the same 17" wheels that are fitted to a Range Rover Sport? (unsure as to which model)
I ask as I'm looking for a set of std. GS wheels, and are finding them also advertised as previously fitted to a RRS ...
... don't want to buy the wrong ones if the RRS 17" is slightly different you see!
It would seem if they were on a RRS they have a 65 profile tyre, if on a D3 it appears to be 70 (same size width on both though)
Are they the same wheel???
Thank you.
I am trying to attach a picture of them without success ... is there a simple way?

Actually, thinking about it ... when you say same wheel - is it the different tyre that effects the weight rating then?
My plan was to have General AT2's fitted to these wheels ... is the alloy wheel its self the same then?
I have RRS HSE's 19" fitted to my GS with Good Year F1's and want something a bit chunkier for the winter to muck around with you see ...

AFAIK the wheel rim is exactly the same, same part number. The tyres on the D3 are 235/70 17 rated 111 (weight rating), RRS is 235/65 (slightly lower profile) 17, rated 109 (too low for D3). Wheels would be fine for AT2s, as long as the AT2 was weight rated 111 or above. Some folks use 245 or 265 width tyres but I tend to stick to original sizes.
Re your F1s on 19" RRS rims, as above the wheel rim is fine on the D3, I'd check the tyre spec as they could be under sized and (more importantly) 109v weight rated. You could always put Pirelli ATRs on these or go the whole hog and put on Goodyear MTRs.

I want to keep the 19" rims for the summer, and obtain another set for playing around on and winter ... your info means I get the choice of more ad's - cheers!

No worries, you can never have too many D3 wheels.

FYI I've just checked and it says 107Y after 255/50 R19 !!
So it seems they are not even the correct weight rating!!! Really grateful for your info!
(I bought it with these fitted in 2008, the dealers change the wheels to make them more appealing I think but obviously didn't bother to check the rating )

My local Stratstones in Newport did that, pointed that out to them (was bored whilst car was being serviced) and the sales guy just shrugged. You could complain to your dealer or LR if you've got the time and energy, might get you a new set of tyres but will prob be a waste of time.

I've done 17000 miles on them without a problem but they shouldn't have sold it to me like that really ...
Do you think they're dangerous??

And they should be 255/55/19!
Thanks Andy,
It wasn't a typo, they are definately 50's not 55's (have attached a picture to the gallery)
I will never use them again, so it wasn't a smart decision on their part ...

looking at your gallery - you can see the side walls on the 19's look too shallow
50 to 55 doesn't sound much but look at this picture

this was Cooper ST's correct size for D3 17" wheels against RRS 19" tyre/wheel - I was amazed at the diameter difference - I binned the RRS sized tyres for MTR'sSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
