Ghosts in the machine perhaps?
This old chestnut must be one of the greatest mysteries since Agatha Christie popped her clogs. I've seen lots of mentions of it in threads before, but never a solution. I'm dreading the day mine starts doing it as the suspense is killing me even now - I can't imagine how much it'll bug me when it happens to mine (and it will - this is a D3 after all and 'every fault comes to those who wait')2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)

Obvious question OS but no "i" in the dash display?? Could be low washer level but you're not looking in the right place at the right time to see warning. Otherwise ghost in the machine.
