Hands up all those with there D3 on the front cover of Land Rover Monthly. I got a call tonight from JJ at frogs Island to say that both non stick nick and myself made it on to the front cover of LRM.
I havent seen it myself yet but apperently there is an artical in it about our latest jaunts in the french alps, hopefully i will get a copy tomorrow.

Just read it! Fantastic!

I'm off to Val Thorens in 2 weeks and am interested in the type of chains that failed and whether spacers are needed for the standard 18" front wheels?

p.s. I,m not planning any off road(except on skis) however VT is at 2300m and is currently under 155cm of snow with 40cm to 80cm expected today Shocked

spacers

Andy
I used the 30mm spacers from Frogs.
I would recomend spacers as clearance between the rims & the suspension arms is tight. If you want you can borrow mine. They are still on the vehicle but I can pop them off if you would like to use them.
Mind you the car went very well on road without chains in the snow, till we crahsed off into a field !!!.

Thanks for the offer Nick, I don't expect I'll need to use my chains!(RUD) the D3 didn't need them last year - even though other cars did, I carry them as a last resort? your opinion on chain use/requirement would be appreciated.
The pictures and editorial have reminded me of how good the scenery is out/up there! I can't wait.

p.s. Where did you get the spacers?

chains

Andy,
The chains I had were medium grade one and came from Polar in Tunbride Wells, speak to Nick there.
They had a ratchet tension mechanism are were very good. Very easy & quick to put on.... 4 chains in 20 mins.
Cost about £300 for 2 pairs.
I doubt they would have been used if we had not have gone off road.

The spacers came from TBR via JJ @ Frogs Island. Good quality & easy to fit as we did this at the hotel in France in the snow.
I can recomend the Cooper St tyres for snow as well. A very good tyre>

Have a good time.

Regards

Spacers and chains

I agree with nick, the D3 performes wery well in the snow and ice. there were some days in France where we did'nt use chains at all. There were other stages were chains were a must.
I used the pewag chains, they cost a bit more but they are well worth it, there were guys there with cheap chains that broke every day.

You really do need to use spacers on the D3 if you are using chains, as nick so rightly said there is only a few mill clearance if you dont.
