Split FBH Plastic Fan Cover Help!
Hi Folks. I have just removed my Webasto Thermo Top V as per Robbie’s guide and noticed a split in the combustion fan cover. I was convinced that I had caused the damage until I saw that the fan cover pictured in Robbie’s guide has an identical split.
(Of course, it’s possible that both of us have caused the damage prising the outer cover off)
Spares for these heaters seem thin on the ground, is it possible to get these obsolete parts anywhere and does it even matter? My IID tool was coming up with non starting faults and component failure, however sometimes it would start when initiated through the IID.

This cover is a “sealed” dust cover... so if you seal it with hot glue or like wise, it should stay ok for years...
Webasto does not sell the little parts like these covers separate. It is not standard that they brake.... I have seen hundreds of them maybe 1000 .. in the last 18 years...
Another thing..... if it runs ok with your IID the webasto itself is ok...... the LR software management “is the problem...” or maybe the fuel level, or the outside temperature, or....you do a lot of short drives...
So why take it apart? Just let it burn a few times, with the IID, every time more than 25 minutes... 3 times for instance in 24 h, should be enough..
(No driving in between!) if everything like low outside temp (lower than 7 degrees Celsius) fuel level etc. Etc. Is ok, It should work ok again normally... but a few short drives (less then 8 minutes or shorter) in low temperatures wil make it cloaked again very soon....Best regards
Harold

Many thanks Harold. I will either glue the cover or possibly plastic weld it. I did manage to remove quite a large amount of carbon but will use the IID tool as you suggest. The FBH now might not even be needed until November.
As for introductions, never quite sure what to say on these forums, so apologies for that.
Regards, Mark
