Hi Streffie and I have been trying to locate info about that batteries maximum voltage tolerance.

As you posted, you were told the battery could tolerate up to 18v before being damaged.

I have never heard of any 12v lead acid battery that could tolerate more than 16v and that was for Calcium/Calcium type batteries, not any form of AGM type batteries.

AGMs are not usually tolerant to voltages over 14.7v, with some exceptions, like Optima and going on the specs for your battery, it too is safe at similar voltages to an Optima.

But Motobatts own info states not to boost charge their batteries.

Boost charging only charges at 15.5v to 16v, so not sure where your battery’s real tolerance is.

Still, that battery should work well in a D4, just a shame it is not available in a larger Ah capacity.

BUT!

If the ECU was moved ( as Bodsy suggested ), it looks like it would be possible to mount two 32Ah batteries, wired in parallel, in the auxiliary battery compartment, giving a total Ah capacity of 64Ah ( vs 55Ah of an Optima D34 )

Hi Ent and I believe the Odyssey PC1220 can be used but you need to modify the battery compartment, to get it to fit.

I have never tried fitting a PC1220 but, going on the specs for the Motobatt, it looks like two 32Ah batteries, mounted side by side across the auxiliary battery compartment, might fit without having to modify the battery compartment.

You would just need to make up a new battery hold down bracket.
