Thanks - I'll fit it in the morning.
I did wonder why I had to make a longer bolt for the main battery earth and I hadn't read anywhere else about other people doing it!!formerly Disco3Ben

On the back I fitted a fuse box screwed to the ply and set about wiring it all up.

did you end up putting in 4 fuses of the same size? as apposed to the 10,15,20,25 that comes already in it?
Just done mine and at the moment it's fitted with the ones it came with

It depends on the grade of wiring used.
You want to make sure the fuse blows before your wires.

Has anyone tried removing the fuse for the standard 12v sockets and powering them from their second battery? Id like power in the front to power the dash cam and charge stuff up over night.Good bye untrusted p38

I bought a decent yellow top battery as my second bat for the split charge system.
I’ve been running a small dehumidifier in the car overnight after my sunroof drain issues.
Now I can’t get the battery to charge higher than 8v with a trickle charger and it’s sat at about 6.5v.
could I have killed the battery by running it down low?
It won’t top up when I link the batteries.formerly Disco3Ben

Yea thats dead. You need something to stop it going below 12v or whatever level the manufacturer recommends.Good bye untrusted p38

If I have killed it, what kind of battery do I need to replace it with?
I have the charge points in the rear of the car so I can charge equipment when out on location, so the battery is going to get lower.
How do I not kill the next battery? I haven't heard of others with similar issues with their split charge systems.
Or have I just run this one too low on this occasion? I thought the yellow top was the 'go to' of choice for this kind of install?formerly Disco3Ben

Although the T-Max kit is a great value split charger it doesn't have over-discharge protection like some expensive management solutions. You can however add in another bit of kit if you think you will be leaving items 'unattended' that could discharge the aux battery without you intervening.
Google "12v Battery Guard" and have a look for something with suitable Amps rating to shut off your draw if the Aux gets dangerously low.
I don't have one on mine as the only thing I would use in reality that would do this is my Waeco fridge which has its own voltage protection built-in.D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Yep, cool - that particular one will handle gear pulling a max of 120 watts so make sure you check what you're running off itD4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten
