It sure should do at that speed. What have you got as a drive, Heathrow airport main runway Shocked

The speed you actually reached would be about 109 mph in reality so you are about 3 mph below what LR state. Diesels are easily limited and LR do just that. Do not get it confused for mapping of the ecu although it is linked.

Disco 3/LR3 is a SUV, a total "box" in design & the heaviest in it's class. It would be drag limited, probably around 120 mph. If you want a vehicle that goes faster, you should really look into a sports car. Disco 3/LR3 really handles poorly at higher speeds and feels like a giant brick.

Apart form the useless MPG (and range) you'll get... it is rather silly driving any vehicle that fast on any road... private or not.

Imagine the carnage when something the size and weight of the DISCO3 ploughs into the back of a stream of cars or even due to a blow out... hurtles toward the on coming traffic !

well that'd make quite a nice road pizza wouldn't it !

At 115MPH the DISCO3 would make road pizza out of a hippo !

The chipped Disco3 I drove around Silverstone yesterday was actually brilliant in its handling, but they had done something with the suspension and it appeared to stiffen up after 80 mph. This was not a normal D3, but it had some go. I think because the restriction were removed that is why it smoked.

Stopping as I said was another thing and the brakes did suffer serious fade dramatically. Fuel at 125 was 14 mpg and it started to smoke.

All in all it was fun for about 15 minutes, but thats it.

Take a look at my first comments http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=747

Chipping will not remove the limiter, thats is a simple spanner job. Most mechanics can do that, but it certainly is not wise and would certainly void your warranty.

I really, really doubt the Disco 3 could go much faster than 120 mph. (You said the speedo @ 125 mph was in reality 118 mph in your posting.) If this vehicle had a limiter, I don't think that limiter was really "limiting" too much. Box with less than optimal aerodynamics = Lower Drag Limited Top Speed

Anyway, that's just too dangerous for me.

Hi grommet, don't forget I was on a race track with a specially prepared vehicle. The speedomoter was wrong as I pointed out, but the thing that was noticable, it wanted to steam on. The limiter was definately opened up. The other factor, was that the top speed was achieved on the longest straight (Hanger Straight) and very very slightly down hill. Noise level was quite high by the way. The wind was low and possibly a southerly tail on that straight, which is normal.
