Speed camera detector?
I have owned a Road Angel speed camera detector for 15 years and don't want to be without one. My current Road Angel Gem is getting unreliable after 3 years. But I am not sure what to replace it with.
The Gem Plus is supposedly an upgraded version, but looks the same, and I find the screen is hard to read on a bright day, or there is the new Cheetah 150 which looks quite nifty...
Does anyone else operate a camera detector and which do you prefer?747_JK

I did use one until about 5 years ago but gave up in the end as didn't like the clutter of it on the dash, and decided I would take the risk, working on the basis I would spot them.
I know the mobile ones can be an issue for spotting in time, but I got fed up with the false alarms of "mobile camera site" going every few minutes, it felt like a police conspiracy to slow me down!Andy

Also have two of the Gem + but the screens are failing on both from the bottom up, fine at night but almost useless in daylight.

Forever driving in places I don't know, too easy to be tripped up by a speed camera hiding around a corner which catches you out.
And let's be honest, we don't all do 70 precisely on the motorway - I tend to cruise at 77/78 - and therefore knowing which bridges on the motorway have cameras on allows you to come off the throttle a little before, to be safe.
Plus, in average speed zones, the Road Angel very helpfully calculates your average speed and tells you how you're doing versus the average - useful if the speed of traffic is going up & down.
PLUS, it tells you the speed limit on the road you are currently on. A useful feature, as it's not always obvious what speed zone you are in.747_JK

We could say the same about how the sneak about in places it would be illegal if you or me park there
In Nottinigham they have amber lights on the top to look more like workmen vans.

If you have a MY2014 D4 or newer you can load this database into the integrated SatNav for warnings without needing any extra hardware. Just save the file onto a USB stick and load the custom POIs via the USB socket in the upper glovebox.

Wow, this is really useful and I might scrap the Road Angel in lieu of this then. Would be nice not to have a wire tailing across my dashboard in the new car.
Can I just check, do you have to have a destination set on the Nav, or does this work so long as you have the Nav screen showing? I am guessing it doesn't issue audible warnings for cameras if you were in another active screen, say Phone, and didn't have the map up?
Please could someone advise, before I go and pay for a sub?
Many thanks Skully and Robbie747_JK
