Spare Wheel (Swap / Rotate) |
|
Hi Everyone, a couple of questions.
I bought my Disco about 4 months ago and (touch wood) never needed to use the spare wheel, but before I go on my summer hols I will lower it, service the mechanism and possibly swap it around with another wheel.
It's a late vehicle (66 plate) and I'm almost certain the wheel is original and tyre looks brand new, so a couple of questions:
Any issue with rotating the wheel (if I'm buying new tyres all round)?
I'm thinking age of the tyre any issues with rubber degradation?, plus any issues with the TPMS system etc?
I've looked at the onboard pressure monitoring system and the spare is not recorded on the display.
Any tips?
Thanks

First thing to check is if you do have a full size spare, age will not effect the tyre as it is out of direct sunlight. Not displaying a TPMS for the spare suggests it’s isn’t full size.
Beware of the supplied jack they have a reputation for failing under load . It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

66 plate or 16MY with Adblu will be a full size spare. The first thing to check is the date code on the tyre. Mine were all the same code, as it's not in sunlight it's less likely to have seen the effects of UV light.
It should have a TPMS sensor fitted to it and this will be recognised when driving.
So basically, as long as the spare wheel is still there and hasn't been stolen, it should be fine. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

I don't think you necessarily have a TPMS issue with the spare as I don't see my spare on the pressure check screen, but I do get warnings if it is low on pressure (2016MY). You could try letting some air out to test low pressure gets picked up and you get a warning if you are concerned. Gary
