well, Land Rover seem to be taking some notice
i have rcd an email asking whether us dealers have had comments from the owners of D3 and RRS as to whether they would be interested in an attachement to help prevent spare wheels being stolen.
I have already done a quick reply to them saying i'm sure the interest would be great but at the right cost.
What i need from forum members is a quick poll so i can give them an idea of interest out there.
This will not be a free item but engineering have come up with a simple solution and they want an idea of interest obviously before they commit to manufacturing numbers
This would be a global solution so all dealers will hopefully feed information in but it seems an ideal oppurtunity to use the global nature of Disco3 to good use

TLO, with respect I think that is the wrong way for engineering to look at it, if they will provide it for free then it should be offered to ALL D3 owners....then numbers are quite well known and no-one needs to ask for "interest" - suggest they just make loads and offer it to be fitted free during normal servicing activity...Cheers

I find it interesting that a few days after pictures of a solution to this problem are posted on the main Discovery 3 forum, that Land Rover have 'come up with a solution', I hope RLD has his patent filed
I sincerely hope LR are not going to attempt some form of plagiarism on this I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

LR's email came out today and the way it's written it sounds as if they have had i sorted but just need confirmation of numbers before i suppose they do the usual thing and tuck themselves up by ordering loads and not shifting them

I voted "yes, at the right price".
I agree that the spare wheel's vulnerability to theft is a design flaw - an oversight, to be very kind, but to ask for a free mod ignores the car industry's current circumstances. I think it's great that Land Rover have acknowledged the flaw, and it would be even better (although optimistic) if they fitted their solution to new cars. I doubt that they will because of the well-known gearing effect in high-volume production: small unit changes in production costs relative to the price of the product can have huge adverse effects on the product's contribution to a firm's results.
We've seen two after-market solutions to this problem. If Land Rover wants to join them, then I say it's welcome.

Another LR dealer is already selling a kit at around £124... maybe LR are thinking of reselling that product?
Trinity LR designed and had made the wheel saver as seen on here, ebay and their website. They are selling them locally from the dealership - which is where I saw it and thought it was great
At the same time as I got one, the guys from Trinity were in final discussions with LR for manufacturing / adoption of the product. Looks like it is going through market evaluation. I know one Manager from LR has one fitted to his 09MY HSE
