I have a D4 2015 with a genuine alloy wheel spare. It doesn’t look possible to use one of the metal covers that are popular as the wheel sits face down, so no cavity. What alternative is there to protect that retaining cable and wheel from dirt? I see in the disco 5 there is a flat disc protection.Does anyone know if that fits a 4? There is a large hole in the middle. Otherwise I’m looking for a good plastic disc of some sort? Ideas?
Thanks.

Hi thanks for the replies. Before spending £100 on one of Ray’s, I just wanted to check why I cannot just use the disco 5 protection plate? These seem to be around £30. My car Is NOT adblue and having now removed the spare wheel I’m baffled why it’s been installed face down. Why can I not just install it face up with the disco 5 plate inside the wheel on the outside facing down. Seems to solve my problem with less expense? Or am I missing something. Is this feasible?

If your car isn't Ad-blu then you are right, the wheel is just upside down.
The D5 type plate is just a dust cover as far as I am aware ... doesn't really prevent theft. Paint it the right colour and it might look the part enough to make the scrotes move on to next Disco.
RLD protectors do come up for sale on here frequently so worth checking the for sale section. yes, they can get a bit manky but a good rub down and a coat of Hammerite and they're good to go, so don't be put off if offerings aren't pristine. .

If all you want is a protector to protect the cable and wheel from dirt/stone chips then the protection disc will do the job.
Uncle Ray's RLD Protector will also protect the cable and wheel but more importantly will stop scroates stealing your full spare wheel - that's why I got one, unfortunately after said scroates had nicked my full sized spare wheel Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

So I did just buy the D5 OEM steel plate. Fits like a charm inside my alloy spare and I’ve inserted it face up now into the car. I wonder why it was face down since I bought it. It is not adblue.
Anyway for others, it’s a LR112834 part and protects the cable well. £30.

If you believe that the LR D5 spare wheel protection plate will prevent your spare wheel being stolen I wish you good luck!
When I inspected the LR of a D5 spare wheel protector it was a good job I was already on the floor as I RFLMAO. The salesman could not understand why I was laughing so much.
My advice would be to buy a proper spare wheel protector made by Uncle Ray

non ad blue does it matter a toss which way up it hangs...the winch will do either....face down would leave wheel exposed to damage

Well it’s a steel plate in the same guise as Ray. I’m not talking about the plastic one.

Being steel is about the only thing in common between the LR and the RLD one.
The RLD one protects the end of the winch cable whereas the LR leaves it expose to attack which is why I was ROFLMAO when I saw the LR version.
Do NOT get confused between the RLD D4 with adblue version which requires LR tyre guard part number LR078960 with the LR D5 non protection plate. That fits in an entirely different manner
