Spare Tyre/ Wheel TPMS Issue |
|
Hi everyone. So I’ve just put my newly refurbished alloys and brand new Michelin cross climate 2’s on the car. Each wheel has a brand new genuine Land Rover TPMS valve, including the full size spare wheel. The car came from factory with a spare wheel as standard and the alloys I replaced all had TPMSs including the spare. All worked fine. No errors or warnings.
When I drove away from the tyre shop with my new wheels the TPMS warning light came on (which I was expecting). The error cleared after 20mins of driving, as per the advice on this forum and everything was great.
Checked tyre pressures the next day and the computer had learned the new valves and everything displayed perfectly. However a few days later a TPMS warning came up on the dash saying to check the spare wheel. Which I did. I made sure it was a couple of psi higher than the recommended pressures. After a week of driving the warning message for the spare tyre is still there. I thought maybe the TPMs is new so the piezoelectric battery might require some driving to register & charge. So I decided to swap the spare with another wheel (which I know works), but that didn’t work. The spare wheel TPMS warning still pops i at every ignition. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong! I have the IID Tool if that can help? Thanks

TPMS batteries last about 7 years I believe, the spare has to be inflated to at least 37-40 psi.
Could suggest letting out air in the tyre a bit then inflating them with the ignition on (but not the engine) give it a few minutes and the sensors should send a signal to the TPMS system in the car which should then get rid of the warning alert. Discovery 4
