If I remember correctly the Disco 3 was 32mm; I think it's unchanged on the D4.

As said 6 sided socket all the way.

Guy at work said to me the oil cap on a truck had sheared off when he wa using a spanner and the last bloke must have overtightened it, I said its a dead cert the last bloke did it to tight, BUT the 12 point spanner he used is why it broke as Ive never ever broken one in over 12 yrs of this type of engine.
