Sourcing duratracs...

Getting to the time to reshod ol Yog#2

Previous Yog had 19”rims and even then I had trouble finding duratracs.

This time around I’m on 18” rims, but upon searching the net it seems they don’t do this size Big Cry

I’m in the market for 8 tyres as my parents d3 also needs new boots.

So if I can’t get duratracs, what is the next best alternative, still after the chunky tread look too

Do not want general grabbers, been there, done that...

I'll be going with the Grabber AT3 as I've read that the latest duratracs don't have the winter snowflake rating.

Similar price point too.

You'll be seriously disappointed if your currently on duratracs.

I haven't had them on my D4, had them on my Amarok. Currently on Wrangler M+S.

Trouble is I don't want the hassle of two sets of wheels, need a do everything tyre for shooting, towing and alpine driving.

Maybe wrong but if looking for 18 inch tyres thought BF Goodrich now did one in a 18 inch size that fits Disco's.

Like this, but have no idea if that fits ok for a Disco

I would choose BF Goodrich have used them for years, but can’t get them in 19” also DuraTrac tyres are Qspeed rating therefore illegal on a disco
When buying tyres in Europe you have 3 majour things to consider
Speed rating
Load rating
Snow symbol DuraTrac & BF are available as summer tyres in Britain you’re best of with a 4 season tyre

I cannot see that Q rated tyres would be illegal in UK, as long as you advise ones insurers. Q is well above the speed limit and the law as I understand, only requires you to have tyres suitable for the use the vehicle is being put.

Tyre use is not a suitable answer under construction and uses rules the tyres should be to manufactures specifications, in fact it should fail the mot but as we know they don’t and the chances of being prosecuted very rare unless your accident kills someone, same thing applies to tyre pressures, I have been to a vehicle inspection after a fatal accident and they worked out the different stopping distance due to low tyre pressure as it happened the distance was less and not under inflated enough to be dangerous
The government at present is discussing banning mud terrain tyres unless you prove a need for them, UK power networks have enforced a 50 mph speed limit on any of there vehicles fitted with mud terrains

Even then I think they'd struggle to secure a conviction, you'd have to prove that the tyre failed, caused the accident and that the speed rating was the cause.

So if it delamintaed after a period at 70mph and the resulting accident caused a fatality, you'd look to the manufacturer for recourse as a 99mph rated tyre should last a month of Sundays at 70,80 even 90mph.

in my armchair QC opinion, of course. Thumbs Up
