What sort of ipod/MP3 do you use?

I'm getting a bit fed up with the IOS8 and its freezing up in the D4 so not being able to play music when I want.

I now want to try and get a very cheap Ipod/MP3 player to just connect and leave in the car but am not sure how well they would work, would an IPod shuffle, or anyone without a normal screen, work ok and be able to see what I am playing?

What sort of IPod/MP3 player do you use in a MY 2012 D4 and do you have any issues, can you see and select what you want?

Does anyone have anything going really cheaply? Whistle Whistle

Depends..

how you are connecting up...I guess being a D4 you do bluetooth
if you have the Retro Audio connectivity module "thing" that does the old 30 pin iPod & USB sticks

Maybe an old iPod Classic:
bottomless pit capacity 160, 120 or even 80 gigs is large
can be stowed in glove compartment
it works usually flawlessly
means you arent taking in & out of car
& if you do you can use it with phones outside of car

however - if you have an iPod classic hold on to it ! they are a sought after item right now
 BREXIT - done properly.

I tend to plug my phone in all the time via the IPOD connector in the armrest, just to keep it charged.

I'd use an old iPod, shuffle or classic depends on the size you need.

Has a lot of advantages imho:
  • iPod is the only player, you can use the playlist function, with a normal MP3 player or just a usb drive you have to sort your music in folders do get the same result (playlist like).
  • you can only put a quicklink on your start page with an iPod, not for MP3 player or drives.
  • i made the experience, that iPods are very good drives, I leave them in the car with all kind of temperatures and they work without problems compared to usb drives.
  • for the phone to charge I'd use something with the cigerette lighter, as it should be much faster than the usb connection from the car (1000mA to 500mA)

I use an old iPod Nano in my MY15, and till now it works great (it worked five years left in my volvo, summer and winter). I don't like having iTunes on my PC, so I use MediaMonkey. Comes with drivers for Ipods and works without problems.
 Cheers Patrick from Munich

Can I just ask if you connect via the USB socket assigned as 'ipod'? And if so what cable connector you use?

I have intermittent connection issues with my ipod classic (sometimes doesn't 'find' the ipod despite it showing charge sign on ipod) and I read that a special cable (LR019691?) was required ...but the end plug on that cable isn't a usb.

for MY 2012 it is just the standard charger cable you need, Land Rover don't do one similar to the old style

whther its relevant or not

you guys decide

I have a D3 & bought the iPod connctiivty module early on
This worked wwell till it didnt....statrted to sound a bit Norman Collier...

it was the actual connection cable (which is 30 odd fine wires
I managed to geta replacement Pt No LR 006852
location 66-04-04-04-00
it cost me 30 odd Razoos
its the cable that does the business without all the rest of the kit (holder etc) & could be used to connect up an iPod Classic (or anything else Apple 30 pin) only (hidden way somewhere)
 BREXIT - done properly.

With the D4 (at least with MY 2012) the connections are all there already, I was just wondering what people use as I'm fed up with the freezing after IOS8 updates and didn't know if all MP3 players look the same or if it was apple stuff which give a set up that I am happy with

Yes, I connect via the iPod USB connector. I just use a standard iPod USB to 30pin cable that I had from a spare mains charger. It's a bit longer than the LR cable, but I've not needed any special cable at all.
