Cosmo - We are staying near Auchinleck at the moment and on a trip to the beach noticed so many of the car parks have barriers, which didn't help given I hadn't bothered to remove our box and bars.Andy

I went into an underground car park in access mode but knew it still looked a bit tight with the roof rack so I inched in under the hanging sign... it just touched, so was feeling quite smug that I could just reverse out again. As soon as I started moving backwards the bloody sign fell off the chains, bounced off my windscreen and dented the bonnet!

D5 owners will have to watch it in the John Lewis carparks. I was measuring up the roof bars the other day they add considerably more height to the car and with the roof box on top it gets silly

I first bought my roof box (Thule Atlantis 200) when we had a MINI an it was great
We then put it on the V70, just the once and it worked really well there.
Used it on the FL2 a couple of times and it did the trick there too
We're on holiday now and it's on the roof of the D4 and it's hopeless! Without access to a step ladder at home and ladder and a good flat and firm surface to stand the ladder on on holiday it's hopeless. Even now I've emptied it, I can't get the wretched thing off the car as my good lady is too "vertically challenged" to help me take it off the roof.
One roof box is now for sale!

You need to accessorise ladder and side steps
or open rear doors and stand on the seat or do what SWMBO does and find a public seat or in this case fishing catch boxes, park up close to it and use it as a step i thought was genius

I'd been wondering about the rear steps, but thought access to the back would be too poor, what with the prop to the roof being in the way. Is this not the case? (just fitted the side steps, which means getting to the front part of the box is easy enough).

My wife did it last week with the snowboard rack on the roof..
I thought it would be fine on there for one more day... hit a solid barrier, oddly didn't break a thing and all still works fine.. it must have just fitted as she did make it into the carpark, I had to make a trip from work to go and remove the bars in the carpark Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Some time ago... I was quite smug at managing to fit my disco under the hotel car park. So smug, I didn't think about the entrance barrier that dropped between my car and the trailer I was towing! Ripped the whole barrier, including ticket machine, out of the floor. I didn't secure a discount from the manager that night.

Re: Someone doesn't know the height of there disco
I've done it !!
Occasionally I carry a few kayaks on the roof, so I need 'uprights' to fit them all on.
But being wise to the 'low roof' issue I specifically purchased folding uprights (means you can fold the down flat when not in use).
Got back from a weekend kayaking in the lakes, just unloaded the kayaks, got a call from my daughter who's car wouldn't start and needed a jump - urgent as she had to pick the kids up from school.
Yep, drove straight up there, under a low archway where she lives ...... and tore both the (unfolded) uprights and roof bars from the LR. !!!!!
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.
