[For Sale] 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S
For sale is my loved D3 which I’ve had for only 10 months but it’s been on these forums for most of its life as I bought it off MarkY on here. I’d planned to have it for many years (you’ll see this by the amount of work I’ve had done below) but my personal circumstances have changed so it’s time to move on (house purchase!).
The car is a 2005 TDV6 S with 108900 miles (will slowly increase as it’s in used daily). As it’s a 2005MY it has the great strange specification of Xenon headlights, Rear Park Aid, Harmon Kardon sound system, 7 seats, heated front and rear seats, Heated Windscreen, removable towbar (in stowage holder) and Mark had fitted rear seat entertainment from a Freelander (if I recall) which has a pair of wireless headphones, just plug in a media source and that’s the kids happy! I have fitted a GSM Fuel Burning Heater controller so in the cold the weather you can drop the vehicle a text message to fire up so by the time you get in it’ll blow hot air instantly – I have loved this! I’ll leave the SIM card in it and get it transferred to the new owner.
The vehicle has just had an MOT a few weeks ago and it passed with no advisories, it also had full service history as follows:
• Supplied and PDI’d by Chipperfield Land Rover Herts
• 16/8/06 Hunters Land Rover @ 6499 miles
• 16/06/07 Hunters Land Rover @ 12,656 miles
• 03/07/08 Hunters Land Rover @ 19,686 miles
• 25/07/09 Offroad Essentials Derby @ 28940 miles
• 14/08/10 Offroad Essentials Derby @ 40106 miles
• 15/08/11 Offroad Essentials Derby @ 53632 miles
• 03/1/13 Guy Salmon Land Rover @ 71942 miles (Cam belt)
• 21/05/2014 iAutoUK @ 90341 miles
• 23/4/16 MRM Auto Centre @ 100937 miles
• 15/04/17 By myself! @ 106800 miles – Major service of front + rear diff, transfer box, gearbox and engine oil change. Pollen + airfilter. Premium full kit and oil supplied by Advanced Factors.
Whilst I have had the vehicle it has been really well looked after and I’ve had done:
• New AMK Air Sus compressor – fitted and supplied by Town & Country in Leamington Spa along with a software update and new relay.
• New front windscreen – now all the elements work!
• Steering wheel retrim – done by Royal Steering wheels after some forum advice and they did a great job. I spec’d it to have the thumb grips and perforated leather on the sides a little like a RR Sport (see pic)
• Aircon regas – it is seriously cold even on the hottest days
• Replacement rear parking sensors
Vehicle was taken to Tim McKnight @ Alltrack 4x4 in May (you’ll see him a lot online!) and he carried out a full inspection. As I was planning to keep the car I had not only the essential work done but also all advisory so here is the list:
• New steering trackrod kit (inner and outer)
• New engine idler belt tensioner
• New engine aux belt
• New front brake flexi hoses + inner brake pipe
• New Front lower suspension arms complete
• New Front upper suspension arms complete
• New front to rear brake lines
• New rear brake disks
• New rear brake pads + sensor
• New rear GKN prop shaft
• New rear brake flexi hoses + inner brake pipe
• New rear anti-roll bar bushes
• New rear upper suspension arms
• New rear lower suspension arms
• New rear airspring boot
• New EPB Module + adjustment
• Full 4 wheel alignment
• New rear brake calipers
That bill was huge, but it means the vehicle should go on for many miles and it drives like a new car.
The bad bits (there always is):
I’m a very fussy guy as I’m an engineer so I have to list these, the vehicle is still on the original clutch which is getting on the high side and I couldn’t say how long it will last (being honest!) but it does show the way in which the car has been sympathetically driven. There is a ‘dink’ in the passenger door as seen in a photo and there is some bubbling starting to appear on the rear wheel arches as the arch liner needs replacing (common easy task).
The vehicle drives extremely well, I towed my caravan to Goodwood FOS in June and I had no issues and the car is in daily use. It has had a BAS remap and the diagnostic adapter will come with the vehicle, the EGR valves have been blanked off. It has the clock-on-dash and the lane-change 3 flash indicator software update. I always run on Shell V-Power diesel or use Millers Eco Power additive to every tank and under normal mixed driving the vehicle achieves 30-31mpg indicated.
The vehicle comes with both original keys in good condition, vehicle wallet with all of the booklets, original grill and 2 keys for the removable towbar. I will also leave the quilted boot-liner in the vehicle – a touch of class for the dog!
She’s an old car but with plenty of life, I’d love it to go to someone on this forum so I’m asking for a reasonable (I think!) £6250 ono. Donation will be made to the forum.
Thanks, Dan.

Probably the best vehicle I have ever owned, never felt like it would let me down and driven with consideration 👍

Thanks Mark.
It's been a great car while I've had it but as a house purchase (which is very close to you... that's another story!) has changed my direction so time for a new home for the D3.
