Driving backwards? With no chains you may find the choice is taken away from you pretty quickly
I didn't bother with chains last year and had a couple of "moments", but that was on thin snow that had been compacted and refrozen. I doubt I would have bothered with chains even if I had them with me. This year I may just grab a setI know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

MMMMMM actually put them on .......... Now there's a thing ....... SWMBO says were only getting them as an insurance policy - if we get them we wont need them, if we don't have them we surely will I'm not so sure; I do know which one of us will be in the D3 with the heater on, and which one of us will be kneeling in the snow puitting them on
I'll post pics of them 'in action' next week and give an update on clearance D3 HSE MY09, auto, Santorini Black, Black leather, Black windows ... black IS the colour ...

Nice one. I always have a decent thick pair of leather gloves in the car and these have seen action in the past when fitting snow chains to previous cars. That and a cheap pair of army surplus goretex trousers and a nice warm hi-viz coat. Look like a right when changing a wheel, but at least I'm a warm, dry with all my fingers still attached I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? I have a set of Rud 4x4 chains that I got last year, as we are skiing at Easter and you before, your welcome to take them, just in case, if you wish. They fit my 255 60r18s. not too sure what you got.
Cheers

You're probably right! In the almost twenty years I've had my own car here, I've never needed chains. The roads are usually cleared pretty efficiently and problems mostly occur during any snowfall. However, then it's often a case of one stuck, everybody stuck, so being prepared doesn't always help.
However, I do carry the chains around with me in winter. And if you are driving pretty high, over passes and such like, you may be required to have chains.
BTW, I bought my D3 chains from the ADAC (German AA - the König ones weren't available when I needed them) and they are made by an Italian company, Weissenfels. I must admit I haven't tried them on the car - I guess I should.
