presumably the bottom holes are to let the water drain out and the top ones to let the air in

Actually most of the holes were blocked with flies as you can see by the damage to the outer lip, the flexible rubber elbow was not installed correctly to the air box. It is now though In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

think the holes are there to stop any ductwork resonance - most air intake systems have an 'air dam' , this seems to be LR's latest version of it

PCH, Thanks. As a matter of interest why did you choose the LR unit?D3 (06) SE TDV6, Rear Locker, Rear Air, ARB bar w/winch, Safari Snorkel, 110l aux fuel tank, Kaymar rear bar (twin wheel carrier), Black Widow rear storage system, Rhino rack, GME UHF, Codan HF, IPF HID lights, CSA Explorer 17" w/BFG Mud Terrain KM2 - see Australian 4WD Monthly #103
2 reasons- 1. Safari4x4 is not available & 2. The LR one looks better in my opinion with the intake integrated with the body.
Even though Safari4x4 has told me their snorkel will be sealed on the guard water can enter from inside the guard. The only way you can properly seal the intake into the airbox is to fit new plumbing from the guard intake to the airbox - I doubt Safari4x4 have considered this.

All, A while since the last post on this subject.
How have the snorkels "raised air intakes" performed. Any noticable dust reduction.
Does anyone have the Safari snorkel yet?
Though I mainly travel on dusty roads, the D3 will be doing a Cape trip where there are some reasonable water crossings on the OTL.

Raised Air Intake
Jamo wrote:
Its moe important to me that it stops dust intake. The air intake on my car is already orange inside from gravel dust.
That is exactly what the LR raised air intake is intended for, if you dealing with very fine dust it would be no harm to adopt 10's sealing plan, then you know all the air getting in is from the top of the intake.CLUB "Ah Shor it'll be grand"

it still doesn't address the issue of the heater air intake on the scuttle plate or the one 'O' ring on the duct that goes down the side of the radiator... good effort though
