Jumped out the car yesterday with the engine running and swapped cars with the wife.....20 minutes later got a call..."Have you got the car keys in your pocket"?...... Rolling Eyes
As she was going shopping I had to turn around and go back...
note to self...leave keys in central cupholder not pocket..... Censored

Not a good idea leaving the key in the car - then when you get out anyone can drive it away. I would have asked the wife why disn't she have HER key???????? Laughing Laughing

I would definately agree and concur with that point... i've almost done that leaving the key in the central cubby hole and almost left it there when going to pay for the petrol.. If i had and car was stolen then no payout!!

Always make sure they are firmly ensconsched in pocket now.. Not worth it! Blame her!

Happened to me - wife dropped me at the pub and then went to pick up son a few miles away and bring him to the pub - key in my pocket- quick call -'whatever you do - dont turn it off'
Was worried that it would have stopped TBH

Keyless go. One of mankind's most stupid inventions. Leads to forgetful old gits like me doing this kind of thing frequently. I hate it. Big Cry

Bring back the proper car key...

A while ago I picked up a customers car (Renault Megane Scenic) for a service the night before and parked it in a cul-de-sac opposite my house ready to take to work the next day. When I pressed the stop button, the electric handbrake wouldn't come on automatically as it should so I engaged it manually. I also found that the remote wouldn't lock the car so I left it open - it's pretty safe round here anyway. Next morning I looked out of my bedroom window and.... Censored , it's gone. Feck, feck, feck, what am I gonna do? Wife tells me to contact the owner so I go downstairs to get my mobile and notice that the customer has phoned me at 1.45am many times (they didn't know my home address). Fearing the worse I phoned them and they tell me that the police came to their house at about 1.30 am to tell them that their car had been reported left running in the street! Yep, I hadn't switched it off hence the handbrake and remote locking not working. Embarassed I'd parked it up at about 6.30 the previous evening! The police very kindly took them to their car so they could drive it back home. In my defence, it did have a very quiet engine on tickover but apparently not at 1.30 am! My wife said I'm not called 'Cloth ears' for nothing but neither of us heard my mobile ringing and a mouse farting at a hundred yards will normally wake her up from a deep sleep. I had to get a cab back to my customers house (I had left my car at theirs) to collect the car again. I filled their tank up by way of an apology - cost me £46 Big Cry

If I leave ours running on the drive and take the keys into the house the system complains about keys being out of range. I had assumed that if someone did nick it that it would stop just up the road.

lesson learnt - be more careful

Yeah I thought about that....but realised the system could possibly decide to shut down as you were pulling out a T-junction....As the car won't open unless the keys are very close, perhaps it would be an idea to configure the ignition to operate in the same way ?

Hi Euan,

If the door is shut without a smart key present then a warning will come up "No Smart key found", and red warning triangle with "!" in it. If the key is passed out a window the car will not know. I.E. it does not constantly check, but will re-search for a key when a door is closed.

Regards

Mark.

Cheers Mark....the wife couldn't tell me if there was a warning or not Rolling Eyes ...although I may have been close enough to have fooled the car into thinking the key was still present....either way it was a fairly cheap lesson for all concerned...could have been a lot further down the road before she realised Thumbs Up
