That's why I feel keyless start without keyless entry is a stupid idea. With both keyless, you just leave key in pocket, and don't have to think about it. Without keyless entry, you tend to take the key out, and leave it somewhere in the car.

Had a customer turn up to collect his wife's freelander on Friday. They arrive in his brand new clio sport, she hops in the freelander and drives off and I hear loads of honking horns and shouting etc. Turns out he left the key for the clio in her bag

The solution for this is quite simple - some sort of socket on the dashboard that the key fits into, to hold it there. You could make the socket/key combination unique, too, so that you only hang the right key there. And to make sure you hang it up, you could make it so the engine will only start if you put the key into its socket.
Oh, wait...

How close to the vehicle do you have to be for the smart key to work? Just thinking about camping with the key in the tent next to the car!! Don't fancy hearing the car doors unlock in the middle of the night and the engine start!
Can it be disabled and re-enabled for situations like this?
Thanks
Nick

Driving a new FL2 today and it's got this stupid keyless start
I totally see the sense in not having a metal lock barrel just above your knee, but Saab solved this years ago by putting the ignition lock on the centre console instead. I guess it wasn't entirely a commercial success though...

Nick the key has to be pretty close to the car to open it and I think the key has to be inside the car to start it so you shouldn't have any problems camping next to the car Cheers Ian

Always keep my D4 key on a lanyard and hook to trouser belt loop with key in pocket.
Just so I never leave it in the D4 or get pickpocketed or lose it

I managed to lock myself out of the car as the key was in the pocket of a coat on the back seat. I pressed the door handle once outside the car and the car locked. I thought this was impossible so i assume I found a bermuda triangle zone inside the car?

Your correct, when the key is in the vehicle you should not be able to lock it. Mine just beeps at you until you remove the key from the interior.

No. Nothing else was in the pocket, nor in the coat.
I've had issues with smart key not found when the keys were behind an iphone in my pocket but this wasnt the case here. There was nothing in the car/coat that could have shielded the signal.
