"Smart key battery low" message

I'm getting the above message each time I start the car. I'm away from home so don't have the spare key.

The manual says refer to dealer, is this not a battery I can change? I don't really want to try and open it myself in case I break it with no spare to hand.

Gareth - its a CR3023 battery like those found on PC motherboards - its a really quick and easy replacement. I did both mine earlier this month, i'll try and hunt out the key case opening guide - it might even be it the manual! Thumbs Up

edit - is this the same key type as yours:

If it is the new key style the chrome strip slides off then remove key blade and enter it into slot on case, twist and case separates to reveal battery, be careful of buying cheap battery as it will still show as low battery, there are other posts on here regarding this. I always use Duracell and never had a issue Thumbs Up

It did surprise me that I had to twist the key open but once done quite simple.

The key in the video really is from 'back in the day' but yes, very easy to change. My handbook has instructions and pictures, rather than 'see dealer'.

Yes mine is different to the Range Rover key. It's the rounded smooth key with the chrome side.

Got the dreaded smart key low voltage message today, plus had the yellow triangle burning an image in my retina for 600 miles!! Rolling Eyes From the vid, looks easy to do, even for me. Don't know which key it as as had both keys at the same time, but will change both anyway.

Any suggestions as to best source of a CR3023 battery? Don't suppose this is something you pick up in Tesco?

Might as well change both, one of ours came up with low battery, the second one a couple weeks later.

Picked up mine off the bay, ten for a fiver, Duracell dated use by 2028
