Slipping out of gear.

My car has started slipping out of first gear occasionally. Confused

Only happens when its cold and a tap of the gear level puts it back in. Outside temp is over 10degC so that can't be a problem. Confused

Very disturbing. Oh, well! Off to the dealer again! Mad Censored

Still shows 'D' and no warning lights. It just free revs until I tap the gear level, although once I had to move the lever to Neutral and back to Drive.

A little voice in my head is saying 'software problem Confused ' and a big voice in my head is screaming 'STUFFED GEARBOX Evil or Very Mad '

There doesn't seem to be any reference marks to set the cable position to - looks a bit of a T&E job to be honest Rolling Eyes

Jamo,

That seems a Censored when you dealer is sooooo far away.

I'm with Gareth it seems like an adjustment to me or faulty selector switch (if is has a switch).

well it looks like a very simple DIY task Wink no switches, just a good old-fashioned Bowden cable...

Jamo,

Had the same problem with it slipping out of gear when cold and when hitting bumps off-road. When it does slip out of gear, does pulling it back to D engage a gear? Mine did.

My dealer diagnosed it as loose cable to the gear selector and fixed it without any further problems around 9 mths ago.

Cheers

Thanks guys!

I'm due for the 48,000km service in a couple of weeks so I'll get it looked at then and let you know.

TFC, what's a 'Bowden Cable"??

Thanks Martin! I learn something new every day! Very Happy

I'll admit that I don't know much about auto gearboxes mechanically speaking. Stilll, I didn't realise that something as technologically advanced as a D3 would have the brake cable from a pushbike selecting gears! Confused

Mine did this when I first got it. Usually happened when reversing out of the drive and selecting 'D', which resulted in lots of revs and not a lot of go. Reported it to LRA who advised taking it to a dealer. They 'adjusted' the gear linkages and it hasn't happened since (Jan 06).

I seem to remember seeing other posts here about this so it is not a rare problem.
