Ben,
I just measured up and bought 2 pieces of high density foam from ebay, shaped it to fit the rear of the cubby. two bits as its easier to store and takes less room, can stand upright when packed up. Its very comfy and very warm

Why not a water matress ?
You can double it up for showering or emergency drinking water
or to fill up a leaky cooling system..

It is a king size memory foam mattress cut to fit perfectly inside and for camping only.
From Amazon it cost me (with discount) about £50.
No idea what you are doing in your car but our one was never so dirty as to be thrown out after
I'm looking to do something like this... could you link to the mattress you used?
What do you do with it when not in use? Roll it up?

If you have a sun roof you can connect that to it and it will always keep the bed topped up The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

So, I really like this setup and think I might have found something to work with.... I have two questions though....
1. Where is your radio mounted? On the roof? Can you share some pics of that (assuming this photo is still relevant)
2. How do you get your media player to run without the engine running? Mine just says "low power" all the time.

Eyup, this was answered a bit later in the thread. They are from this place:
£245 for a full set. I looked around, there is a set that looks cheaper going for £175 here. I've been looking at how much work it might be to make my own, if you're interested I've been looking at the resources from this ebay seller, they also sell the mechanism to put in sucker rings to keep things together and the tape to sew around the edges. Reckon it's about a weekends work if (like me) you don't know one end of a sewing machine from another.

Just get some black 1cm thick eva camping mat with foil on one side. Cut it to fit snuggly and use velcro or magnets to stick to the windows. Foil outside is for hot weather, black for stealthy cold nights - swap it for side windows. Tailgate window is a design flaw . I had the fabric version with suction cups and hated it. Eva mats work much better for me!
For the windshield I just use a cheap bubble wrap foiled winter cover. I‘m thinking about doing the eva mat there too, but it‘s a huge area.
