Kingscote, I'm having a little trouble understanding from your original post what mode you're using. If you're driving on ice or snow, with GGS dialled in, and the car still feels unsure, then it sounds like you have a tyre problem. I've driven my D3 on quite a bit of (European) snow now and it feels the most sure footed car I've ever owned? (And thats with standard Pirelli Scorpions)

I am her in Northern Mich drove on a ton of ice and snow my LR3 was awsome i use the sstandar mode but i have avon tires
i have head people have had problems with the stock GR tires you can also try the wet grass mode it may help

What CC said, best car on snow/ice here in the mountains that I've ever driven. Just remember, traction control 4WD can get you going, but stopping you have only the same help as any other car with ABS/DSC. With 2.7 T to stop on snow/ice

1) Never go too fast

2) Get proper winter tyres
 There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song
