They all do that sir
Having been told by one dealer that all discovery 4 engines vibrate like mad, I have now booked a second opinion with another main dealer. Could I ask help from as many of you that have the time to kindly start your Discovery 4 3liter engine, open the bonnet and hold a coin lightly between your finger and thumb and balance it on the left hand side (as you view it looking at the engine) or even lay your keys on the plastic engine cover. If I do this my 50p piece or keys bounce and rattle all over the place. If I could get a few "mine doesn't do that" I would be armed with an argument when I visit the dealer on the 29th of this month. This vibration spoils what is a great car.
Regards
Ian

Hi Ian, if you edit your original post, you have the option to post a poll. This may be a really good way of collecting your evidence. Btw, mine doesn't do it Justin

Surely the dealers will have a selection of D4s in stock? Get them to lift a bonnet or 2 and compare.

Mine is a 2010 TDV6 with 71000 miles on the clock. My engine was warm from having used it earlier, it was smooth with nothing like the vibrations you seem to describe.Andy

Upload a movie of it to Youtube or whatever and post a link so that we can see how bad it is?

Thanks for the replies, I'm not sure how to upload video but I will look into it. Your right about asking the dealers to compare their stock cars to mine, I just wanted to check that the discovery engine in general did run smooth, before I gambled on saying lets go compare.

We get a slight vibration at about 1200-1400 under load, but after that it's smooth all the way to 4000.

Well B r me while waiting for the car to go into the dealers next Monday I have now got a warning message saying Reduced Performance, so call to Land Rover assist who come up with a fault code MAP sensor below 5 volts, ( you know the one we check now and again to see if it's blocked up) so instead of waiting till Monday to take the car to the dealers I have taken it today, not a very pleasant drive hardly any power. The strange thing is the Engine Vibration had disappeared when I had it running in Reduced Performance mode on my drive. By the time I had driven 20 miles to the dealer though it had come back. I have a Range Rover Sport as a loan car, very nice goes well, but I think I still prefer the airiness of the Discovery.
The dealer is going to look at my car on Monday as they are very busy, I just hope they sort the problems out cos I love the car

This Range Rover Sport (loan car) is beginning to grow on me, if my Discovery comes back from the Dealers still a load of pants, I can see me trying to get them to find me a RRS and trade in the Discovery. More expense!!!

Well I got the Discovery back on Thursday, they said it was something to do with a leak in manifold pressure that was causing the restricted performance fault. Trouble is I thought when I picked it up they had sorted the vibrating engine out, but by the time I had driven home(20 miles) it feels like it has come back again. I am getting a bit despondent now, I suppose I should ring the dealer and ask them to book it back in again to have an other look, but I almost feel I am being a nuisance
Sod it I am going to ring Saturday if there open or first thing Monday morning

If it's not right or you're not happy with it don't worry about being a nuisance, get it back there
