Signs of madness

Suspect I might be exhibiting an early sign of madness; doing the same thing over and again, and expecting a different outcome... After several years of love/hate relationships with Disco 1 (V eight) and Disco 2 (TDi), I'm returning to the fold with a D4 Commercial.

I'm not great on detail and don't recall the precise spec I ordered but I did spend my toughly negotiated discount several times over by ticking some option boxes, as you do (leather, xenon lights etc). I put the entire thing to the back of my mind for a couple of months. Not having heard a dickey bird from the dealer, I dropped in this weekend and was almost tempted to ask whether they remembered me. From the indifference I was shown I suspect not although I did ascertain from the receptionist that the vehicle is scheduled to arrive at the dealer a week tomorrow. Guess I'll get a delivery date at some stage and the story can begin in earnest. At this moment of time I have a distinct sense of deja vu but once I get my hands on the beast I'm sure the good moods will return and the farkling can begin.

As they say on the BBC, there are other Land Rover providers available,,, and not wanting to totally queer the relationship with the dealer by naming names here, I'll pm you.

Although still no firm delivery date, apparently the stealer has been invoiced for my new D4 Commercial which I gather suggests it's build is complete and so despatch from Soluhull shouldn't be far off. Which brings me to my question.

Regardless of what it says in the owner's handbook, what's the recommended way to run-in a SDV6?

I ask because some argue that petrol engines (and brakes etc) are at their best if given a lot of work in the first 100 miles of life to stop barrels glazing and rings not bedding correctly. Not suggesting it's necessarily the same for an oil burner, but it wouldn't be the first time that there are two possible approaches to doing something, i.e. the way the manufacturer recommends to minimise warranty claims, and then there's the best way.

Any advice please?

Welcome Thumbs Up
I know what you mean about dealer sells people they really are a different breed Rolling Eyes when I bought mine (many moons ago) I sat there with him deciding on spec and he looked up at me and swmbo and said "I don't think you can afford that Twisted Evil " bearing in mind I told him i didn't need finance. That was it for me went else where and got treated like a king so you can find the odd goodun Laughing

As for running it in get a BAS remap fitted then drive it like you Stole it! Today's engineering is pretty good straight out the box IMO Thumbs Up but I'm sure there be a debate on this Laughing
