iwannadisco4 - who is the supplier you used for Britpart sidesteps please?

cheers

Britpart sale sent me the following two suppliers; I visited AUTOPOST in South Wimbledon and apparently bought their last set in stock. Cost was £231.57 plus vat

AUTOPOST LTD
UNIT 6 THE JUBILEE CENTRE
10-12 LOMBARD ROAD
SOUTH WIMBLEDON
LONDON
SW19 3TZ
0208 417 0243

AJS LANDROVERS
KINGSWOOD KNOLL
BRIGHTON ROAD
LOWER KINGSWOOD
TADWORTH,SURREY
KT20 6XN
01737 241370

The independent dealer near me who is fitting the sidesteps and mud flaps called half way through the job to make a fuss about having to cut out the 3 slots in each side; length of time it was taking etc. On a more positive note he is clearly very fussy about quality of job. Not sure if his moans are well founded or if he is just getting me ready for big invoice. No doubt I will find out later today!.

Incidentally, if you are going to buy mud flaps, Slimers are only £45 for both front and back including shipping. Autopost and LR quoted me just under/over £60 not including vat for just the front or the back - almost £100 less in total if you buy the mud flaps from Slimer

thanks for reply - I spoke to one Britpart agent and was told 532+VAT on Britpart side steps (which is same price as dealer) and 275+VAT for "non-original" parts.

Labour would be 140+VAT....if yours are original Britpart side steps sounds like a great price.
Hope the labour doesn't sting you!!

Elsewhere on the forum there is a a mention that the Britpart steps have the same references as LR ie VPLAP0035 inferring they are from same manufacturer but not necessarily branded the same. I think the labour to fit them and the mud flaps is going to be in region of 4hrs/£200.....if i am lucky! Big Cry

Shocked Shocked You should have given the fitting a go yourself, £800 seems a hell of a lot for a relatively straight forward job! Mud Flaps are basically 3 screws each and the steps is just find the holes and stick a bolt in! The slots are pre marked and are hidden once the steps are on so don't need to be too neat!

Laughing I was quoted 3 or 4 hrs labour at £40 per hour plus vat to do both the flaps and the steps ie £200....but they were worried about not being able to trim the slots neatly so had spent hours on just one side when I went to check on them.

The independent charged me for 5hrs labour; a total of £258 to fit both the sidesteps and mudflaps. Did an excellent job so very happy as my total outlay for parts and fitting including vat for the sidesteps and mudflaps was a grand total of £580 and would have cost me over double that from an LR dealer. Thumbs Up

The independent thought LR should have made it less of a chore to do the cutting out of the 3 slots on each side eg perforations etc. IMHO if you want to DIY and have a nice warm place in which to work, the right tools, and a patient disposition with a bit of spare time its probably worth having a go yourself But I don't have decent tools or any patience - never did manage to successfully complete an airfix model as a kid! Laughing

Q for people:
Side steps qualify as a modification to a vehicle for insurance purposes.
Has anyone seen a meaningful increase in premium for adding after market side steps? Am being quoted increases in premiums b/w £100-200 which sounds ridiculous to me given its not a performance enhancing mod nor do side steps make the car more likely to be targeted by thieves!

When I insured my new D4 the other week I asked about black wheels and black bits I was adding, they told me I didn't need to inform them of anything unless it either increased the value of the vehicle or it changed the performance. I wouldn't think side steps would do either of these so IMO shouldn't change anything. I'm with the NFU and they have been brilliant to us over the years!

Surely side steps are an optional extra? Not an insurance declared cosmetic modification?

Haven't mentioned having mine fitted and there was no questions when we received the initial quote as to whether it had them already. Will see what they say come renewal time Shocked

Should the LED bulb upgrades also be declared?

the sales rep at elephant questioned me about the extras i had put on ie mudflaps and sidesteps, whether they were LR parts ec and put me on hold to check whether or not these non-LR accessories made a difference to the premium - and she confirmed they did not.

Also been suggested looking into Bearmach side steps as an alternative to Britpart (one supplier who stocks both told me they are better quality...also seem to work out ~ £50 cheaper)...not sure if anyone has used them.
