Side steps and mirrors... |
|
My Disco is 1 week old now.
I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow to fix the side mirrors problem I have (they never or rarely return to the original position once dipped)- I have seen a technical bulletin on it, and even though my car is outside that VIN range I have the problem...
However, I am thinking of adding the side steps and woud like some advice from members if they found them useful or not, and how much they limit offroading (not hardcodre stuff, just occasional as I plan to keep the car for 5-8 years at least ) nothing yet.

Hello there Vertex
On your sidestep issue.
I will step up on the for side!!!
They help protect the car in car parks, you can wash the roof without standing on door sills and getting water inside and my toddler can climb in an out of the car without sinking it down. I have scratched the aluminium edges using them offroad due to leaning lightly on things but take it easy, watch the widths at their height and they are alright.
On the downside, you will get dirt on your trousers from them and they do hold a lot of mud underneath!!!! and stating the obvious they make the car very wide in the middle if you have to reguarly go through narrow gate posts.
People seem to fall into two very distinct camps on here end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

I think this all revolves around your intentions off-road ...if you want to do anything more than the mildest of lanes \ offroading then perhaps you should think twice...I've seen a few bent steps to date . Otherwise, go for it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Hi Vertex.
Same as DG on this one , side bars would be best if you are going off road .
the side steps work great if you want to protect the side of the disco
in car parks and city parking where you expose your disco to people
opening doors up on you. (a must have IMO)
Also apart from the protection , from a visual aspect
I think they give they disco a lower appearance and a more aggressive
stance on the road.
if your going to get the side steps , fit them your self .. its and easy job will save you money
and will be a nice first project on your D3.
Cheers .
B.
