Side step advice

Hi all just put a deposit on a disco4 - should be ready to collect next weekend - it has everything I need except side steps - stratstone wouldn't throw them in - they want £800 - do I buy some off eBay and fit myself or should I part with more hard earned and get lr to fit?

The only benefit of the dealer fitting them is that they will have a 3 year warranty if fitted at the same time the D4 is purchased or if they are fitted by a dealer within 1 month of the purchase. I think £800 is a bit steep though Shocked

Try without them first, I think you will find they are more aggro than they are worth, getting rusty with the trim coming off, trapping mud and crap, more unnecessary weight & losing mpg, getting your trousers dirty when stepping in and getting based when you go off road or over anything highish, all in my opinion of course Very Happy

Agree with all Woody's points. On the plus side, they allow people with short legs easier access and give some measure of protection to your doors from the doors of neighbouring cars in car parks.
Never had the dirt on trouser problem in the five years that I had them fitted - perhaps it's the flares/bell-bottom devotées who suffer for their style...

For short people, Ikea sell plastic steps for kids to reach the sink to do their teeth (only a couple of quid each), if you drill a hole in the side and attach a rope you can pull it up after you get in, very handy indeed Thumbs Up

The steps come in white with a hint of pink or blue, depending on your feelings that day, if you have a short partner, to save passing over the step once you are in you could have one each, although some people find giving their spouse a leg up first is easier and just using one Wink

Dog ramps are also useful but you need to park at the end of a row or you can't deploy it, plus it is difficult to fold up once in.
