Hmmmmmmm, could be a split intercooler hose if smoking like that. Remember there may be more than one issue at play, she could be messing with u on a number of levels.

do you hear a slight whistling noise if you open the bonnet whilst he's running and someone put there foot slightly on the gas pedal - if so typically the top hose has a split in it, temp fix would be to get some gaffer tape and wrap around it
ps do I have do everything for yer, not heard of google then........

Looks like I am smoking too, not sure if that helps narrow down the problem?
berkshirelandrovercentre web site no longer in operation!
I guess if I take it in to dealer he wont want to blank the EGR if that is indeed the problem!
Oh , , .
Robin
same problem here..... for me it's a tiny hole in the intercooler...
lot of black smoke.....
don't know if it's the same problem as you, but you might want to check your intercooler for oil.... black oil coming out of it...

Blown Turbo
So new to the site, but I seem to have had the same problem, 2007 D3 but i have only owned it 3 weeks!
Anyway had loss of power a high pitched noise. Stooped and phoned Land Rover Assistance, was told it was a hole in the pipe and could drive it without much power, I was not far from Yeovil so with the LR Assistance following me I limped it to the Dealer there. Anyway it seems that was not a good idea and now I need a new turbo and Cat, to get rid of the 3 litres of oil I dumped into the exhaust in the drive to Yeovil.
But my question, I live in germany and have the option of getting it fixed at Yeovil or getting the car transported back to germany, I have good reasons for not wanting to do that if I can help it but the question is if I get the turbo replaced I will be faced with a 500 mile trip home straight afterwards, do these things need a bedding in time or is a long slog home not a problem.
Any quick replys would be very much welcome as I need to make a decision quickly.
Sorry to have posted this here if its not the right place. Been looking at the site for a long time before I brought the car, but this is my first post, really hoped it would not be like this.
thanks

No bedding in required and Yeovil LR are a good dealer. If it was me I'd get it done there and drive home without any worries.
PS no bedding in from my experience, have had 2 replacement turbos to date. Plus Nick is the parts manager there and is the resident Parts God here, he'll move continents to get the parts. Service department has an excellent reputation.
Perhaps that says it all Derek Mark.

Very similar symptoms to me I had turbo lag problems for ages. Plus a real drop in power when it came in, then the black smoke started blowing out. Lastly it ended up with Engine Management Failure and a few quick visits to the hard shoulder for a reboot. Finally diagnosed as an intercooler problem, quite a few small holes. New intercooler fitted, (not cheap) but now it feels like a new car. Only thing a wished I'd looked at was replacing it with a higher performance intercooler rather than the standard part.

Okay.
£711 poorer and a new set of EGR valves fitted and almost back to normal, although I am concerned they may have screwed up my BAS remap as I forgot to reload the standard map and there were some comments about programming when I collected the car!!!!!
They also kindly did a Health check and I have a list of £1,600 of additional work needed on the car!!!!!
Including:-
Front Diff pinion oil seal leaking £307
ns Driveshaft seal leaking £180
both rear upper arms/bushes badly worn £700
rear anti roll bar bushes worn £78
Disks and pads on rear although not urgent around £500
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any thoughts on how or where to get these done?
Am I likely to get a better price from an independent but end up with a poorer job?

From recent personal experience, just because a main dealer charges you gold plated service prices doesn't mean you get that. If you can, find a decent independant, must be someone on here that uses one near you.
£700 seems an awful lot for a couple of EGRs as well.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

PM sent about independents. In my opinion you can save money and have a better job done that way!
Make sure that whoever sorts out the leaking diff checks the breather pipe which comes up beside the radiator. One cause of oil seals failing is that these get blocked up and the pressure pushes oil past the seal. Land Rover designed a new breather which is better, but dealers will only fit it after there's been an oil leak even though it only costs about a fiver.
Best of luck! David

Would love to know how the dealer can read what fuel map that you have on your engine ??
Only way I thought they would find out is by driving it, that it goes quicker than a normal.

I could not agree more but the car was almost dangerous to drive it had so little power and was getting worse quickly.
However the other stuff I want to take a more measured approach too!
