So I pick up my new (to me) 2011 SDV6 tomorrow (yay!!) and am hoping for many years of driving fun and low maintenance costs.
However, being realistic I will require the services of a good mechanic (later rather than sooner  ) and seek your advice on a whether to go with a LR dealer or an independent and if you can recommend such in the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire area. Or, as importantly, any to avoid.
I can do basic maintenance but the days of being up to my elbows in oil and grease have long gone

Hoping Geoff might be coming to Herts but he has a lot on right now so not sure.
Try Alymer motors in Potters Bar, did all my work pre Geoff. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Have used Aylmer for ever and they are brilliant. Cannot praise them enough. And I can walk home from dropping the car which is a bonus.

Not sure where you are but, Clive at Benington 4x4 Centre http://www.benington4x4centre.co.uk/ has looked after my Land Rovers over the years - nice guy and they know there stuff. Also Gary at MRH in Hertford http://www.mrhlandrover.com/ is well worth considering. cheers,

I used the Land Rover dealer in Chelmsford and they seemed good. Lookers.
Also undercut the cambelt service price by nearly £300 on my XJ
They are a Land Rover dealer and Jaguar service dealer though they may well sell Jags now aswell.
