I got one of these adaptors and the driver came with it. Don't rely on the Windows found driver

Just for the record, what we tried today was the following...
1, VE WinXP SP3 with serial cable - everything ok, no problems
2, VE Win7 Ultimate RC, XP mode, USB serial. Comms errors, server not found etc.
3, VE Win7 Home release version, USB serial. Virgin install of VE and Prolific USB/Serial drivers. Errors as above.
As I said to Duncan, his experience may be different depending on his specific choice of hardware.
My choice is to use XP with a real serial port. It gives me no issues and is the only configuration supported by BBS and the only one I trust. BBS admin have intermittent problems using USB-serial converters and Colin himself has said his preferred connection method is direct serial. Andy

I know
I want the best of both worlds..
maybe i'll get a second hand Dell 620 and a new Compaq - but what will I do with the HP - oh well, I may as well fix that as well.
At least all three of us in the family will have a laptop Duncan

BBS has been developing diagnostic equipment specifically for Land Rover vehicles since 1996. We in fact introduced the first ever system available independently, in the form of a dedicated touch screen tablet unit that was far more capable and far more advanced that the dealers own equipment. Its a lead we have always maintained and are renowned for, even today in bringing such uber capable dedicated equipment as this in a form that costs just a few hundred, rather than a few thousand pounds.
From the very start, this equipment could, just like the dealers equipment, also disable a vehicle if used incorrectly. But shucks, you could disable a vehicle with a humble pair of scissors if you so wanted. Should those be banned too in case someone mis uses them.
Since we started supplying our diagnostic systems, we have supplied literally thousands of them to people all over the world with no such problem or issues.
So this new notion, or more correctly, attempt to undermine us and what we are doing to benefit others, on the basis that we have suddenly introduced some new and dangerous capability is just laughable.
The single example being quoted here is that of a customer from the far east who took delivery of SV software for a Disco 3, and without so much as spending a few minutes reading the help, he read his CCF, and started changing settings without having backed up the settings first using the capability we had provided just for that reason. He quoted changing things like the Model Setting = Land Rover. Suddenly his car did not start
We then simply provided him with as much help and assistance as we could, and because our savable settings files are just HTML and easily accessible, it was just a simple matter for us to re create and send him a copy of his original CCF data taken from LR's own "AS BUILT" file archive, which is what they provide to all dealers to cover themselves if and when the same thing happens on their own IDS equipment. Which if you think about it, in itself should tell you lots, however there was some problem and delay with him giving us different VIN numbers and it took a day or so to get him sorted which was indeed done using the "AS BUILT" archive file for his vehicle. In the end a happy and now hopefully wiser customer.
Regards providing a cheap Service Resetting tool allowing cheating, is it not the case that all later D3 owners can reset their own service interval reminder anyway. In fact i would not be surprised that if you replace the instrument pack on an earlier example you would not then also get this capability.
The fact is that everyone else here can clearly see the huge benefit and leap in capability that we have introduced here is in no way, a bad thing.
As such these utterly transparent attempts to undermine us and discredit us in everyone's eyes simply have the reverse effect.
The MSV-2 is a great piece of equipment, as anyone who has ever invested in one will and have repeatedly happily testified to. Cheers Guys
And i offer my thanks to all those on this board who have given me their support, help and many appreciative and constructive comments.

If you get your HP fixed, why do you need the Compaq?
Speak to Dave about the D620. He'll reassure you about the build quality, plus if anything does go wrong you know who to call....
Edit: Poppy doesn't need her own laptop! Andy

Well said Colin
The "OTHER" Diagnostic company must be worried if the only way they can get to you is making false claims backed up with no evidence and bringing up old articles in newspapers You would think the "other" company would voice there own opinions instead

I don't have a serial port I do have a Tosh with a serial port, but it also has a cracked screen But then again I've had no issues with the setup I have, but if I do I have a Shuttle pc and flat screen monitor I can put in the boot
...and no, thank you Colin for thinking of the everyday man that can carry out his own repairs but can't afford to spend over £8k on the off chance he needs to find a fault

Matt TDV6 - I am deleting your posts, because you are deliberately goading 10forcash to respond. If he wants to he will, without your constant negative chat.
If you don't like it, walk away from the thread
