"Service Required" comes up quickly when starting |
|
Hi there.
I bought a used 61 reg disco from a dealer about 3 months ago. I've done about 3000 miles since I bought it.
When I start up the car, I get a message flash up on the screen (the screen between the speedometer / tachometer) for approx 5 seconds saying "service required". no other warning lights come on.
I'm about to call the dealer, but before i do i just wanted to ask some questions - does this warning mean something is wrong with the disco or is it a scheduled service? if schedued service, how often does a disco need servicing? and - it's not right that i should have to pay for servicing 3 months after buying the car is it?
thanks
Pete

It did just pass 16000 miles total on the weekend so that must be it.
Is it reasonable for me to have to pay for this after owning it for three months?
(edit - i've had it four months actually!)

Depends on what the deal was when you got it and if it was a good dealer, however they know what the service intervals are so I would have expected them to have talked to you about it. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

I bought it from Lookers in Park Royal.
I'm just a bit surprised that after having spent well over 30K on a car that it needs to be serviced 4 months later...
I don't know if I'm being taken for a mug or if this is a completely normal situation is all. any advice would be appreciated.

In the opening thread you say 3 months, in the last its 4 months, personally this is something you should have discussed at the fime of purchase,,, or even asked when is the service due., how many miles have you done since you bought it? If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

I thought it was 3 months, but then I saw the date I joined the forum and counted back (I joined the forum the day I got the car)
It's just passed 16000 and it had 12900 when I bought it.
When I picked it up I asked about servicing and the salesman said "don't worry, the computer will tell you when to bring it in..."
Sounds like I should have done more homework then eh? I guess it's not a big deal, just kind of surprised me is all.

Just been to the website to see about booking a service and it says it's a 2nd year service.
Makes sense that that's not really related to when I bought the car, rather how old it is... I was just being thick.
