secondhand price seasonality |
|
Have seen a few nice secondhand D4 HSE's, but I'm not in a hurry and know prices are at their highest in the winter months.
Just wondering how much prices usually drop by in the spring? The new '18 plates will be out 1st March and people will be trading in, so there will be an influx of stock + it will be warming up and prices will be dropping.
Am I likely to save a couple of grand on a approximate 25K budget, or maybe get something a bit newer/less miles for the same money?

Don't forget that prices will also be reflected in whatever you trade in. Dave

Yes, have a Freelander 2 to trade, so will take a hit but it is worth a fair bit less than what I'm looking to spend on the D4 so if I lose £6-700 on that but gain £2K on a D4 then I'd still be quids in.

D4’s have held their values extremely well but, as larger numbers of used D5’s come on to the market (they already outnumber D4’s on LR’s “Approved” site) and they start appearing at the independents’ sites, their value will decline much more quickly and the cheapest used D5’s will likely cap the values of used D4’s. That’s likely to put a larger dent in the price of a used D4 than the approach of spring.
If your FL’s running well, I’d bude your time (it’ll always depreciate more slowly than the more expensive car that you’re likely to replace it with) and watch as the later D4’s come into reach. Get a Euro 6 one and help future proof yourself against future opportunistic tax grabs on diesels 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!

I was kind of thinking it would be good to get a 14+ model with stop/start for the lower road tax. Is that the year for the Euro 6 engine too?

Anything from September ‘15 should have Euro 6, as it became a legal requirement. Be careful though, I’m aware of one Sept ‘15 car that was pre Euro 6 and I don’t know how that one slipped through.
Euro 6 cars started to become available from around July to August ‘15. You can tell which it is pretty quickly as they have the additional AdBlue filling next to the diesel filler and the LR Approved adverts list them as 203g/km, rather than 213g/km of the facelifted 2014/early 2015 cars - though they are both in the same lower tax band. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
