Second Fuel Tank to be replaced

After earlier problems with ruptured plastic breather pipe on top of fuel tank (replacement tank fitted by LR France) the same thing has happened again!! Evil or Very Mad LR are trying to find out if there have been any other instances of this. It appears that something is rubbing against the top of the breather fitment causing it to wear away (after only three months!). The result is that when the tank is filled fuel comes out of the top under pressure - soaking the forecourt!! Anybody experienced this? Might be worth checking under the car to see if there is fuel residue on the long steel plate which supports the tank.

Very rare occurance I think. Sound like an install issue, dealer making the same mistake perhaps, putting it back in the same way. Question Idea

Disco has been in Montpellier all this week for assessment of the problems with my fuel tank. The answer - a mouse has eaten away the fitting - extraordinary that it should happen in exactly the same way on a second tank!!! If I want the tank replaced I will have to pay for it myself. Also there were NO signs of a mouse nest or droppings, confirmed by the garage. So it seems that LR are washing their hands of the problem. That really inspires confidence in the company. I've told them to replace the tank as is and I will have to live with the problem - just can't fill to the top with fuel. It's a bit of an inconvenience but we managed a trip to Scotland with it in that state earlier this month.

Unless they can show you the part with teeth marks in it I would be getting them to replace it. I could see a mouse making a hole but it would stp as soon as diesel fumes were released. THey need to prove it is not a fault I would think.

So, your dealer is claiming a mouse ate the same piece ....twice Shocked

I think a call to LRCC is in order.

does it really need the WHOLE tank replaced, that sounds like bad design if the pipe itself can not be just repaired/replaced.
 Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

Having to replace the complete fuel tank, when all that is needed is one plastic pipe elbow which would not cost any more then a few pounds, or i could say its not a design fault just a way of getting more money out of you when such a small part is needed Idea

I had my tank eaten apparently by a rat / mouse 4 weeks ago Exclamation Landrover took out the tank and said that the damage consisted of two small holes and elbow joint. Two options were given ;

1) replace tank with new at a cost of £400 Shocked
2) Poly resin the two holes and replace the elbow joint. £150 Very Happy

Option no 2 please Bow down
I have had no problems since Thumbs Up

Would it not be possible to spray some sort of chemical
on the tank,that would deter the rodents from having a nibble Whistle
