Search facility

Now it may just be a case of RTFM, but I really struggle with the search function on this site.

If I want to search for a particular phrase, I would usually place the phrase in inverted commas to ensure I got relevant results. As this site is configured, it appears to ignore the quotes and simply look for threads that contain the individual words in the thread, often on different pages. For an example, try searching for "Day Tent" and marvel at the amount of results where "day" appears on one post while "tent" appears on another.

What makes this worse is that there is no obvious indicator of the location of the search result within a thread. If your search word is on page 7 of a 9 page thread you have to crawl through pages 1-7 to find it. Highlighting it in orange helps, but you still have to rummage through several pages.

Am I missing the bleeding obvious here? Is there a search help text I'm missing? Does anyone else have these problems?*

{*These and other question will be answered in this weeks episode of "soap" (cue music)}
 I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

You can use AND to define words which must be in the results, OR to define words which may be in the result and NOT to define words which should not be in the result. Use * as a wildcard for partial matches

Agree that it could be better, but if you type [day AND tent] into the search box it narrows it down a bit Whistle

"AND" is redundant if you use the option to search for all words. Using my example above, you get 157 results with or without the "AND" if you have ticked the "all words" box. Whistle Whistle Smile

If you're looking for an engine problem, just get the butler to fill it with the wrong type of fuel Laughing

You can google a specific site for results & use their more advanced search features.
