Knetdale in Kendal quoted me 1000 plus vat
independent in Essex was 1100
NWS in Shropshire quoted 800 plus vat or 999 plus vat to include the 7 year 112k miles service Crying or Very sad
NWS also included the oil pump!

I have done the D4's belts no problem with the body on, its very tight and a load more to take off, the front belt has limited access because of the fan cowling but still doable with body on.

And yes the rear belt is timed.. I made my own tool for the fuel pump...

Sorry to bring up an old thread but my make is going to replace the rear pump belt on his d4 he has the locking kit but would like to know where he puts it to lock the pump. When replacing the rear fuel pump belt.

Baz2236 Sorry to say if he does not know where to use the tool then he should not be attempting the belt job, if he gets it wrong its going to be costly. Plus if he has never done a cambelt before then doing a D4 rear belt is not the place to start.

The 3.0 TDV6 has a twin piston pump, running at higher pressure. As opposed to the 3 piston pump on the 2.7
Although the pressure is high, the volume is quite low. So a sudden use of fuel when the injector opens drops the pressure quite considerably.
The pump must be timed to help keep the pressure spikes in phase with injector opening to minimize pressure drops in the rail. Thus as an injector is flowing, the piston is a maximum pressure.

In reality, as you say, how much will this affect the operation?
I would suspect not noticeably much. But I suspect efficiency & fuel economy may suffer (a bit).

The pressure rail valve on the rail does a good job of stabilising pressure, but, as with most diesels, the ever increasing need to reduce emissions, makes them (or Bosch in this case) design in the best chance they can at making cleaner engines.

Hi,thought it was like changeing as on a disco 3 but apperently not so I need to order locking tool.
It seems also even more lack of space as on a 3. Does anyone got an overview what needed to get off to reach belt on s D4?

No need for locking tools on the Tbelt pulleys, everything else very much like a D3. Thumbs Up
